  • What can I possibly do with my old dog? :(?

My parents moved to an apartment that they are renting and they told us we couldn't have pets in the apartment. So when they moved, I offered to take care of our family dog at my work's live-in space. My dog is is now 13 years old. I was able to take care of her well for a year and then my workload piled up so much that all the time I could spend with the dog was during breaks when I rushed to take her outside for quick bathroom breaks.

Now, the other people sharing the building with me were complaining that I had a dog (the big part of the building is a commercial building) and I am no longer able to keep my dog with me there. My parents are secretly keeping the dog at their apartment now, but everyone is stressed out because of my dog.

We all really love our dog but there is no legal way to keep her now. What can I possibly do with me dog?

I'm scared of putting her up for adoption because of her age and she also developed this skin condition so I don't think if anyone would want her.

    UGH What do I do!?!?!?

  • My parakeet died... how can I deal with this?

I found my parakeet a little over a month ago, outside at a parking lot. He seemed like a baby still and was very untame. I took him home, fed him and gave him water and we became best friends from then on. I spent like 12 hours a day with him, watched movies together, ate together, dlept yogether pkayed together... he quickly picked up my kissy sounds and started to copy it. He made kissy noises whenever he saw me, was hungry or lonely. It was his way of getting my attention.

I had work 3 days in a row so I left my budgie with my mom so I can spend the nights at work and not have to worry about him. On the third day, my brother called and told me that my bird is dead. He said mom tried to make him a pretty "home" out of a big cardboard box with plastis on top that has holes in it. Then she went to get her hair done and my brother went to work out and when they came bavk they found my bird dead.

I don't even know who to be angry at. I know my mom's intention wasn't bad but I miss my budgie so much... ive been crying over him all day and I keep looking back at his pictures and recording of him... it makes me remember what a great friend he's been to me and how much I miss him. I feel like I'm slmost becoming depressed over this.... please help... how do I deal with this?

  • What is wrong with my brother?

Okay. So I have a LOT of run-ins with my brother which leaves me confused and angry every single time.

So today, he was telling me how this one person he knows is an "escort". So I was thinking of one of those police escorts who escort people to events etc. And before I could even put together a sentence to answer him, he goes, "You don't know what an escort is?" So I was like, "Um.. like one of those police escorts that take you places?" And he was suddenly really worked up about it and was like, "Wow, you retard. It's job-related. Look it up." And I was like "Yeah... well, the only type of escort is the kind that protects you while you travel". And he started calling me names like "idiot" and "retard" and told me it's like common sense to know. He told me afterwards that it was a woman who accompanies a man, usually in a sexual manner, like a prostitute. I was surprised, because I had never known but my brother treated me as if I should have known that word. He even said "even a 6th grader knows".

So I was trying to tell him how not everyone knows everything and it's fine not to know certain things (especially stuff like knowing what an escort is) and he just blew up saying stuff like I don't know because I "don't know anything" and he got really mad and told me to shut up because I don't know anything.

What is wrong with my brother??? Can ADD or ADHD cause this kind of behavior? What can I do about this?

  • About the anime "FairyTail"?

I recently started watching it and I keep relating the characters and the story to my experience while playing a couple of MMORPG.

Maybe it's because the story is based on "Guilds"... but yeah.. did anyone else feel the same way?

I quit playing games a long time ago so I become kinda nostalgic watching this anime... All the fun times I had with the people in my guild... how serious I felt about the pride of being in a known guild etc Tell me I'm not the only one ~_~

Anddd do you know if FairyTale is based on Fantasy Online Games?

  • Is my budgie trying to communicate with me? Or.. "smooch sound"?

I've been trying to teach my budgie to speak for about a week or two. During the sessions, I would make "kissy" noises a lot, while kissing his beak lightly. Like.. "smooch!" (short and quick). Instead of learning words like "cutie!" "Romi!" He started "smooching" at me when

    1. When he's hungry

    2. When he wants attention

    3. When I walk away from him

At first, I thought it was really cute that he's copying the smooching sound, but he does it so often that I thought something was wrong.

And then I noticed something really weird. He only makes the smoochie noise when I'm around.

I left Romi (my budgie) with my mom and my brother for a couple of days. When I came back, Romi greeting me with a lot of smoochie noises which surprised my mom and my brother. My brother teased me by saying that's the bird's way of saying "go away" since he never made that noise when I was away. I do smooch him a lot when I'm near him, but do parakeets choose and pick certain sounds for certain people???

Budgie/parakeet experts and owners, please help~

  • My budgie is biting down his toe nails... how much is enough?

My budgie, less than a year old....

His toenails has been growing and they got pretty long, so I was thinking about taking him to an experienced avian handler/vet to get them trimmed. Today, I saw him chewing off his toenails but I've always heard about parrots and parakeets chewing off their toes and freaked out a little. He left two of the toenails pretty long but al of the other ones are nicely trimmed. LOL. He doesn't seem to pick at them anymore but they look petty close to the veins in his nails...

Is it okay to let them trim down their own toenails or should I do something about his behavior? Please help!! I don't want to wake up to find his toes gone!!!!

Also, my budgie is in a god condition, preens himself a lot throughout the days, likes to take short walks outside with me and is a good sport.

  • When do budgies behave like adults?

I don't mean like, oh, when will they just grow up and stop acting all silly.

I mean, when do they develop their song, and know how to bob their heads to say "HEY, I LOVE YOU" or "THIS IS MY AREA, SHOO!"

Because... my budgie is a few months old and he does this really shabby bob... he doesn't continue like most adult budgies I've seen do, but he kinda bobs his head VERY slightly only once or twice and he only sings when he's falling asleep.

When can I see full on adult budgie behavior? Or do they start singing and bobbing their head naturally within a few months and mine is just shy?

  • Do budgies regurgitate seeds and eat it back up? ;;;?

I've been reading up on vomiting vs regurgitating because my budgie's been pumping his neck up and down and I see seeds come out of his throat and he's nibbling on it and he eats it back up.

He only shows this behavior like 1~3 times a day and when my finger is around, close to him. He uh... rubs his beak on my finger, chirping softly (not loudly as usual) and he (with his beak still on my finger) pumps his neck up and down and I start seeing 1~2 seeds in his beak and he's constantly nibbling on them and he eats them back up.

I heard when birds regurgitate, they regurgitate ON something, like mirrors, toys and into the mouths of other budgies. But mine just eats them back up as quickly as it came out, almost.

OR am I wrong and is this vomiting? Otherwise, his stool seems healthy and his behavior is just the same if not a little more active nowadays.

  • My budgie is bobbing his head... but not in a normal way. HELP?

I was playing with my budgie when he started nibbling on the tip of my finger a little more aggressively than usual (aggressive meaning, really fast beak action, not that he's hurting me at all).

And then he started jerking his head , with his beak still on me, nibbling. His jerking movements are quick reflexes backwards towards his body(face towards my finger still) and then back up close to my finger. He does this several times... Then I saw one or two seeds come out of his mouth, which he kept inside his mouth then ate it again.

He does this 2~3 times a day.

I looked up budgie head bobbing, but this is not quite like the nodding motion of a budgie. AND he only does this when my finger is there. He doesn't do this EVERYTIME my finger is there, only 1~3 times a day. But most of the times, seeds come out and I see him eating it back up.

I couldn't find much information on the internet. Is this something I have to take him to a doctor for?

Also, I got him about three weeks ago. He only started doing this a week ago.

  • Is it okay not to have a cage for my budgie?

I found Romi my budgie in a parking lot two weeks ago and I bought food, treats, toys for him, but cages that were big enough for him were 50~100 dollars which I cannot afford right at this moment.

His wings were clipped so he was probably someone's pet but I've been putting up fliers for the past two weeks and no one claimed him yet.

I spend literally ALL my days with Romi. He didn't like me at all when I rescued him from under a car. I brought him home and he flew away from me (as far as clipped wings could take him which wasn't very far). I moved VERY slowly and talked softly to him and within 2~3 days he was very used to my presence and other people.

He is now pretty tame and is already target trained and somewhat toilet trained. He is a very smart bird... He likes to watch shows with me and sit on my keyboard. He likes to sleep with me, too etc... I know it's not safe, but he goes outside with me, too. He hasn't tried to fly away or run from me yet. I take him to this field where it's a huge grass area with no cars, dogs, cats, or people or trees. I like to let him "attempt" to fly and then back to my hand.

For the past two weeks, I've been looking up things about budgies like 6 hours a day since I found Romi... and I know a cage for Romi would be a better choice since he will have a designated safe place...

Would you recommend that I get a cage for him? Is it urgent that I need a cage for him or can I save up my money a little bit for a month longer so I can get him a nicer one? (And also my living expenses... T_T)

But I still haven't bought him a nice cage, yet. The only cage I can afford is like $30, which is too small... way too small... it can only fit a couple of perches which make it seem like it's already overcrowding and you can only stick a tiny little food/water bowl and like maybe one toy...

  • How do I know if my budgie is an adult?

My yellow budgie is mostly clear with 1% or less of VERY VERY VERY almost transparent markings.

He is the recessive variation so his cere is translucent pinky and pureplish sometimes. His eyes are all black, just like the recessive variation is supposed to be.

The markings on his head are so transparent that I can't tell if it's there or not.

Is there other ways of knowing if my budgie is adult?

I found him at a parking lot, so I don't know about his birth etc... but to me he looks really baby... but not really. IDK.

  • Why does my budgie shave everything to tiny little pieces before eating?

I know some budgies only eat seed and it's hard to get them to try new kinds of foods, but my budgie...

Today, I gave him carrots instead of seed when he was really hungry.

    He nibbled and spat.

I gave him a thinly shaved one. He tore it to pieces. He looked like he wanted to eat it but he kept cutting it to smaler and smaller pieces until they became power.

Why doesn't he eat food like normal budgies do? Take chunks out and eat...

  • Budgie sound & behavior questions?

I had my budgie for a little over a week now and I've been curious about some of his sounds and behaviors. Please try to anwer as many as you can as best as you can. Thank you~

    1. When I tickle Romi's chin, he makes this teeny little squack/sqeak sound and starts nibbling on my hands. He makes the sound once. Why does he make that sound?

    2. When I say "I love you!" to him, softly, he chirps back REALLY softly. like. once. Why is he chirping softly and not loudly like he usually does when he hears other birds?

    3. Romi doesn't bite as hard as other budgies do. Even when he's scared or angry or annoyed. He's never bitten hard enough to hurt anyone before. He doesn't destroy his toys either like other budgies. He eats fine, and he shreds paper to pieces, though... but why isn't he biting people HARD? Even when I first got him, he never bit my hard.

    4. Romi doesn't fly much. His wings are clipped, but he doesn't try to fly unless he has to. He's also very still. If I leave him on my desk, go take a shower and come back, he's at the same exact place and he hasn't moved a little. He loves to play on my keyboard when I'm watching TV, though.

    Thanks for answering!!

  • Why is my budgie acting this way?

I got my budgie a week ago. He was at first VERY untame and HATED the sight of people and fingers. Now, he doesn't mind people and eats on my hand. He used to be so scared that he didn't even let out a peep.

Recently, he's been screaming at me randomly...

    such as...

I'd be watching TV with him, and he would start pacing up and down my shoulder, on to the desk, on the keyboard, to my lunch box, nibble on it a little, climb on it, then back on to my finger, then to my shoulder, back to the desk...

then he would get chirpy... like very soft at first, circling around a little, then looking directing at me and his chirps would get a lot bigger until he starts doing that angry budgie sound that goes "AACK! AACK! AACK! AACK!!" and starts flapping his wings in place.

Then I give him some attention and go "What's wrong?" and he starts chirping again and then gets quiet again.

WHY is he doing this?? He does this so randomly and out of nowhere sometimes, it alarms me.

  • Is my budgie content, happy or maybe even scared when we do this?

I got my male (?) budgie a week ago and I've been taking him everywhere I go. He feels safe on my shoulder and at night, loves to hide inside my hair (lol).

When I first got him, the first two~three days... he was really scared, and didn't let out a peep. When I first brought him home, he flew away at the sight of my hands and it was hard for me to get to him because he runs so fast and flies far for a bird with clipped wings.

I've been slowly showing him that I can be his friend and I think he opened up to me more.

So we do this thing sometimes where I'd be watching a show on my computer and Romi (my budgie) would be sitting on my finger preening and chilling. Then he suddenly looks at me and then I look at him and it's like a romance movie <3 I slowly approach his face with my other index finger and his face becomes all poofy and he cocks his head to the side and closes his eyes. I thought that was so adorable! So I started gently rubbing his cheeks. And as I was observing him closely as I touched his cheeks, he leaned forward and started running his beak all over my nose and lips. It ticked but felt really nice.

And then all of a sudden, it hit me. Is my budgie behaving this way because I'm so big that he's scared? Or do budgies generally like to run their beaks on people?

Also, while doing that, my budgie seems like he's trying to take off a bit of my lips... like... it doesn't hurt but he grabs a big part of my lips and nibbles on it.. which I found really funny. LOL

  • Do you think it's cruel to eat chicken in front of your pet bird?

I know technically it's not cruel but whenever I'm eating chicken, especially wings and drumsticks that look like a part of a bird, I always eat them where my parakeet can't see because I feel like it would recognize a bird's body part and become traumatized.

I know it's silly, but YOU owners of birds... did this kind of thought ever cross your mind at all? XD

  • Is this how budgies play?

I had my budgie for a week but we've been bonding pretty quickly (except night time. All he wants to do is stay on my shoulder and pecks me when I touch him. At day light, he doesn't care if he's on my shoulder or not, and never EVER pecks me EVER when he's active)

Anyways, my budgie's been doing this thing where... he moves from his perch to my fingers and then he gets on my shoulders. After wildly looking around (I don't have much movement, just slowly walking), he gets on my fingers again and then he flies somewhere random. He usually ends up on the floor looking away from me. He then starts chirping... like "Chirp!" "(3 second pause) "Chirp"! "(3 second pause)" etc

I thought he just wanted to be away from me, but when I approach him with my finger out, he comes running back to my finger.

He does this pretty often... if he was scared of me, I would think he would run away when I approach him.

Is he coming to me because my house is a strange place and he's scared? Or is this how some birds play?

  • My budgie (parakeet) always wants to sleep with me...?

I got my budgie about 4 days ago and I really love him a lot, but...

When it's time to sleep and he's getting all sleepy, I put him in his cage and I go to my room to sleep. As I'm walking away, he clings onto the cage, and starts flapping his wings and makes loud noises, so I thought he needed something so I went back and opened the cage and he immediately flew to my shirt and climbed on my shoulder.

I thought it was really cute at first and liked the attention and all, but he wakes up everyone in the house. He starts sleeping on my shoulder and when I put him back in the cage, he starts freaking out again... I put a blanket over his cage, turned on a night light etc... anything to get him to sleep, but he won't sleep unless he's on my shoulders...

Last night, I let him sleep with me, and when I woke up, thankfully I hadn't moved around much in my sleep and found him on top of my belly (lol) but I can't keep doing this because he poops when he wakes up and also, I'm not a quiet sleeper and I think it would be dangerous for my budgie...

How do I get him to sleep by himself in his cage!?!?!?!?

  • My budgie wants to stay on my shoulders at night...?

I got my budgie just 4 days ago... I've been playing with him a lot and named him Romi. He is totally cute but at first he was too scared to want to actively play with me...

He is still kind of scared of his surroundings but perches on my finger and eats out of my hand.

So.. it's night time and for the last two days, after dark and around when he starts getting sleepy, he FIERCELY looks for my shoulders...

At daylight, he likes to perch on my shoulders, but only when I place him there. He usually doesn't climb up there on his own... but at night, he HAS to be on my shoulders or he gets chirpy and bobs his head up and down constantly and when there's an opening, he flies on my shoulders.. sometimes on my hair when he misses. When I put my finger out, he gets on it and I put him down on a table etc.... but he keeps coming at my shoulders. Or else he gets frustrated and keeps looking for ways towards my shoulders (flies to my belly and makes his way up).

At first, I thought we were bonding and I liked the attention but while I was trying to get him off my shoulders, he flew into my face and almost scratched my eyes...

WHY is he wanting to be at my shoulders this desperately at night time?

At night, i'm usually wathcing movies at the computer and I move aroudn frequently, so it must be a terrible sleeping area... I don't understand why Romi wants to be on there so much ONLY at night time... at day time he likes my fingers more and spending time with my dog.
