My budgie (parakeet) always wants to sleep with me...?
I got my budgie about 4 days ago and I really love him a lot, but...
When it's time to sleep and he's getting all sleepy, I put him in his cage and I go to my room to sleep. As I'm walking away, he clings onto the cage, and starts flapping his wings and makes loud noises, so I thought he needed something so I went back and opened the cage and he immediately flew to my shirt and climbed on my shoulder.
I thought it was really cute at first and liked the attention and all, but he wakes up everyone in the house. He starts sleeping on my shoulder and when I put him back in the cage, he starts freaking out again... I put a blanket over his cage, turned on a night light etc... anything to get him to sleep, but he won't sleep unless he's on my shoulders...
Last night, I let him sleep with me, and when I woke up, thankfully I hadn't moved around much in my sleep and found him on top of my belly (lol) but I can't keep doing this because he poops when he wakes up and also, I'm not a quiet sleeper and I think it would be dangerous for my budgie...
How do I get him to sleep by himself in his cage!?!?!?!?
My budgie sometimes hangs out with me all day outside of the cage...
as sad as it is, maybe I should try to keep him in his cage more often and only take him out to play for a few hours :(

I know this may not seem like a good answer, but, if he's young you just need to train him. Do not use a night light. That keeps him awake. Just put a blanket over him and leave him alone. There is only one other option that MAY work. Maybe moving his cage onto your nightstand (if it's not already there) because maybe having him see you will put an end to the troubles.

I have got birds and i don't bother to leave any lights on. I cover their cages and leave them to it.
In your case, it might pay to put him in his cage with a cover during the day (only for short periods of time ) and try and get him used to it.
Does the bird go around with you all the time or does it live in the cage mainly. It could also be sleeping during the day anyway and is simply not tired when you are. i had a budgie and it used to sleep for two or three hours during the day.
good luck

You could try putting a picture of yourself in his cage...or else maybe put some treats in there to distract him?

you would be sorry you asked! lol. I certainly have 30 pets! 13 kinfolk rats, 3 degus, 2 rabbits, 6 cats, 2 dogs, 2 ferrets and a pair of parrots. One parrot is an African gray and the different is a blue and gold Macaw. i like all of them! while i grow to be very youthful and had a toy pram I in no way placed a doll it in...did no longer like dolls, i could placed my teddies in it and walk it down the line! So i assume I constantly grow to be an animal lover. the gray parrot is sooo smart and talks for hours at a time! he will call out my call and say 'choose banana' or choose grape' Wanna come out. He additionally bosses my Macaw around asserting issues like'Meiko! do no longer chew!....good boy...this is wonderful' and the checklist is going on. My Macaw can purely say hi, yet he has maximum of approaches of asserting it to get his which potential for the time of. he's so lovable. If he's in a strop he turn around on his perch and places his head down. he's likewise a thief...he snatched my eternitiy ring from my jewel field and flew off with it...in no way discovered it! the two birds are quite like 2 babies (ours are grown up now). My dogs are the two rescue dogs, border collie and a lurcher, the lurcher went by an extremely super puddle on the park 2 weeks in the past and yelped...that grow to be £500 on the vet!! She'd shrink her foot deeply and mandatory stitches. She is sooo candy and extremely tender yet we had to purchase a muzzle and it took 3 human beings to hold her whilst we inspected her paw! The cats have a hierarchy and on the 2d the youngest, a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous is making an attempt to grow to be boss cat by potential of stalking the boss who's 14! all of them have their personalities. Ferrets, have you ever had ferrets? OMG!!! they are so playful they love you to chase them whilst they run backwards, they are into each and every thing. My gorgeous little ratties, I do have my favourites and that they are the older ones, they are all very affectionate. My degus are candy yet prefer to be left on my own lots of the time with one yet another. My rabbits, one is feisty and courageous and while he's interior the abode he's not terrified of any of the animals, the different one is greater shy. i think of that covers all of them! They mean plenty to me because of the fact i'm getting to stroll by existence with those dazzling creatures and that i've got faith very blessed to be waiting to do this. I purely love making specific all of them have the perfect existence that i will likely supply them....to verify them happy makes me happy. Sorry, that grow to be slightly long wasn't it!! Ha!
