Countries like N Korea, Russia, Saudi, are not likely to want our commercial political system. But maybe?
maybe they could be persuaded to bring in some democracy and freedoms with a system of gradual change, generous retirements and guarantees. What if they were persuaded to assemble some particularly clued-up and intelligent minds to come up with a system that brings slow but solid change in the right direction about?

1 AntwortUnterrichtvor 8 JahrenBring on the Battle of the English Local Authorities - how would you structure this?
This link shows that there are 90 local authority areas that make up England in 2013 :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_English_count...
Now imagine maybe having the top 24 by population competing in a great tournament or short league (and the rest competing in a second trophy contest). Each team is to have a maximum of one player who is not born in the area he is representing and this player is not allowed to score goals for it.
The above is written with football in mind, but cricket, rugby u & l, snooker, darts, athletics and other sports might also have such a battle of English local areas.
How would you like to see this competition structured to make it as good as it can be?
1 AntwortMedia & Journalismvor 8 JahrenIf UEFA is to have 2 big clubs cups, then why not have different countries in each?
The point of this is to make it so that teams from all countries have something they could win, rather than having the Europa Cup as a 2nd chance competition for knocked out teams from the top leagues.
In year 1, year 6 and year 11 the top 4 countries for clubs football each send 8 teams to play in the Champions League, while the top 1-3 teams from all other countries play in the Europa Cup.
In yr1 Eng, Spa, Ger, and Ita play in the CL; all others in the EC.
Then in yr2 & yr7 the top 6 countries play in the CL (= the 4 + country of origin of EC winner + overall most successful other country in the EC that yr) and all others in the EC.
In yr3 & 8, teams from the top 8 leagues play in CL; all others in EC.
in yr4 & 9, top 10 leagues play in CL
in yr 5 & 10, top 12 leagues play in CL

1 AntwortSnooker & Poolvor 8 JahrenWhen a country like China, NKorea, Cuba, SaudiA, Libya, Syria, or Myanmar finally goes democratic...?
Is it best to let the current regime party compete as one of the options on the ballot,
even though there is the danger that it might win in all provinces,
it might determine the ballot-entry rules and the funding system in such a way that none of the others ever stand a chance, ever,
or do you SPLIT the dominant party up first?
If splitting it up is your preferred way, please specify which method of splitting it you would think would be best for the country concerned in the long run in terms of building a good democracy? Thanks
3 AntwortenElectionsvor 1 JahrzehntIf a country has no history of democracy and all their neighbours have failed when they tried, why not...?
You know, Iraq, Libya, Saudi, Syria, and Afghanistan. Never have they had a democracy before.
And yet it would be such a wonderful thing if they could get a really good one going.
By a really good one, I don't mean one where there's only ever one party in government, controlling everything, and where the others never stand a chance.
So what if they got things started with a new party composed wholly of people who won their place in this party in an open to all lottery? The aim is to ensure that no one party gets too much power early on and stops acting in the interests of the country.
So when expanding the list of parties ahead of elections, a 2nd party, which checks what the public wants and goes with the outcomes of these surveys on every issue, might win a lot of votes, right? And then maybe a 3rd party could be based on a committee composed of whichever people turned out to be the most intelligent and have relevant knowledge in tests, and a 4th could be based on open to all popularity tournaments where one in five always ends up advancing to the next round ...other options could be based on a lottery of all companies, a gathering of all religions, of all trade unions, etc. Rather than let one party bankrolled by the rich create a system where all other parties are crippled by the system, let's develop some ideas on how to ensure this never happens, and why not consider a system where the voter's options are based on the above specially set up parties?
And why not let all voters enter their own ideas into a big referendum-ish tournament of what the new constitution should contain, and what the new voting system and the allocation of powers should be?
It's more democratic than the way all current constitutions of the world came into being, isn't it?

2 AntwortenInternationale Organisationenvor 1 JahrzehntWould you like there to be a US Games?
Similar to the Olympic-, Pan-American-, Asian-, Commonwealth and Goodwill Games, but with US states teams only (not limiled to amateurs only or by age or anything + each athlete may represent only either the state he/she has lived the last 5+ years in OR the state they spent most of their childhood in). State teams compete for prize money, medals, a place in the top 10, etc.
Main sports are to be Baseball, American Football, Ice Hockey, Soccer, Track&Field (short and long Relays & Overall Points System), Lacrosse, Basketball, Tennis, Golf, and maybe ten pin bowling or rodeo.
In which sports would one state easily win overall ? Would this problem be solved by splitting California into 3 teams: LA county; Southern 9 (other) counties; and the rest of the state. Names to be 'LA', 'S9' and 'Bays & Valleys'.

Are all the curriculums that teachers teach from (junior, middle and high school) set at a state level? Or are there maybe 2 or 3 different US-wide curricula that schools choose between? If so, do they mix and match? Or is it left entirely up to the teachers, what topics they wish to cover and what exercises to do in learning about them?

2 AntwortenTeachingvor 1 JahrzehntPlease tell us about your country's health system?
I live in the EU/UK where every person has tax-funded free comprehensive health insurance from birth to death, rich, poor or middle. In most of the EU, we do not get charged when we go to see a doctor or when, heaven forbid, we have to use a hospital. The only charges are when we get medicines in the pharmacy, and even then the fee is a flat rate which means around 80% of their cost is again subsidised by the tax-funded state.
Please tell me about the system in your country. I am particularly interested in the systems in Asia and the Americas. When you purchase health insurance, do you have a choice between different levels of coverage? And if so, what sort of illnesses, situations or diseases might not be covered by all the health plans on offer?

5 AntwortenInternationale Organisationenvor 1 JahrzehntWhich is most likely to happen in the next 5 years, that a 2nd UN or a 2nd EU is formed?
UN2: So that no country is immune from UN-related international law, it might happen that the biggest 100 countries apart from US Chn Fr UK & Rus form a 2nd UN in which no country is able to veto things & hence matters of injustice can be better addressed.
EU2: Countries become tired of being coerced into a general system of rules telling them what they must do & what they can't do, and so some of the countries form a breakaway EU2, in which there is only a menu of initiatives, and each country simply opts in to and out of any initiatve it likes / doesn't at the time & it can change/opt back in/out whenever it wants to. This EU2 might grow to have 40, 70, maybe all the countries of the world in it, whereas the current EU is reserved for only those who want to go forward and form a kind of superstate together.
Which of these 2 is more likely to happen? & which would you give more support to?
