When a country like China, NKorea, Cuba, SaudiA, Libya, Syria, or Myanmar finally goes democratic...?
Is it best to let the current regime party compete as one of the options on the ballot,
even though there is the danger that it might win in all provinces,
it might determine the ballot-entry rules and the funding system in such a way that none of the others ever stand a chance, ever,
or do you SPLIT the dominant party up first?
If splitting it up is your preferred way, please specify which method of splitting it you would think would be best for the country concerned in the long run in terms of building a good democracy? Thanks
Wouldn't it be good to have a system in which there is no chance that the system will be hijacked and wrecked by the biggest party after one of the first elections? Any constructive ideas are welcome.

It is only democratic to allow anyone who wants to stand for election to stand. To say to Kim Jong Il that he can't stand for election in N. Korea totally undermines the whole point of democracy - everyone can vote, and anyone can stand for election.
Anyway, if a people have made their country democratic, they are not likely to vote for the people who ruled them as dictators even if they do appear on the ballot paper.

To Legitimize the outcome, all parties should be given the chance to participate and let the voters decide.
