What desserts can be made from a bunch of medium-sized oranges?
* They are a mix of Valencia and Navel varieties. There are about 10 or more oranges.
* Looking for ideas for desserts other than those involving gelatin, flan, fruit salad, or eating them plain.
* Recipes aren't necessary, but are appreciated. Looking for ideas that will use up a lot of oranges, not just one or two.
Dune - LOL. That's so cute. :-)
Mary P. - If I get one of these done, it would be an accomplishment. I'm going to attempt something today. ;-) If all goes bad, then squeeze and freeze might be the way to go.
It's tough to choose a best answer on this one...
Dune, that's a great tip about the zest by the way.

Other than what you mentioned, you don't have many choices for that many oranges.
I'd make some marmalade.....it stores really well and can be used in many different ways.
Orange Chicken, for instance, can be made with marmalade, as well as a delightful pasta sauce I know of. LOL...its a dessert sauce of course, but its perfect for making fruit pizza.
Then there are Orange Marmalade Glazed Pork Chops, Orange Marmalade Muffins....all sorts of things!
If you decide to use them this way, here is a good recipe for you (I've used it myself so I know it works out well)

You can also use some of the oranges in an Orange Julius...
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 c. milk
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
5 or 6 ice cubes
whirl it all in a blender until smooth

You could make an Orange Granita:
Cut & squeeze the orange halves; Strain & save to the side;
Make a compatible (as in quantity) simple syrup with sugar & water, add in the strained O.J.;
Let it cool down to warm, put into a freezable pan or dish and put into freezer; Every 20-30 minutes take a fork and stir the mixture until it solidifies. Scoop some out & enjoy.

Save the zest of others and freeze as ice blocks so if you ever want to add the taste of oranges to a cake or dessert you just need to thaw one or two.

You can steep them in Grappa and make a kind of Limoncello with some sugar. Then drizzle on Ice Cream...
Make marmalade with the pulp and rind - great as an ice cream topping.
There is always the Classic Crepes Suzette Flambe with XO and/or Grand Marnier or Cointreau.
Enjoy! {:-)

Its simple but great.
Buy some dark Chocolate and take alternating bites between the two. The oranges serve as a pallet cleanser after every bite of chocolate. :p
