Which Catagory is More Practical to Learn, Weapons Trianing or Unarmed Martial Arts?
Unarmed Martial Arts(Striking, Grappling, Throwing) are more practical for a kid or teenager in the K-12 school system While Weapons Trianing( Marksmanship, Impact, and Edged weapons) seem to be more useful and appropriate in adult life for self-defense against violent crimes. If you can only learn one catagory, which catagory is do you think is more useful?

I'm an Evangelical Freemason so I have no preference between the two and I am just curious about what is more common with those who do not spiritually believe.

I am not speaking of the way we talk here in the US but simply the way that we spell words. I have many friends and family members who live in the UK,Canada, and Australia and I got confused learning the Uniquely American ways to spell color, honor, gray. center and other words. I thought that I was just butchering these words and being stupid when I was a kid by adding U's and "re" at the end of words rather than "er" . Should the USA recognise the way that the rest of the English speaking world spells? It would make things much easier.
3 AntwortenWords & Wordplayvor 4 JahrenWhat would be more useful for the Average American to learn; the Metric System, or another language?
I have lived and spent quite a bit of time in Ohio and Michigan and I learned a lot of the Metric system due to the close proximity with Canada but now I live in the South and when I talk about understanding Metric Units people look at me like I am speaking a language other than English. That being said the South is also full of migrants from Mexico that do not understand English but understand American measurements such as gallons, pounds, feet, and inches. Which option do you think would be more useful to most Americans and why?
3 AntwortenHomework Helpvor 4 JahrenIs There a Protagonist Character type Between a Hero and an Anti-Hero?
An example of who I am talking about would be a character who has a survivalist/realist mind -set, loves his friends, family, and personal connections but has a great distrust for the greater society at large and the authority figures in it. He doesn't want to do anything evil but he also doesn't want to do anything heroic or take unnecessary risk for the greater good of society and he also lacks leadership qualities/abilities.
If he were in a mid-evil setting he would rather stay in his village and protect it from the enemy with the other village men rather than to go war for the glory of the king and the kingdom. All of his acts are motivated to help the people he loves rather than to help his country, his authority figures, his society at large, or a list of ideals.
If he were in a modern setting, he would go into the scene of a bank robbery or mass shooting, but only to go in into it to protect his girlfriend and escort her out of the place while allowing the bad guys to do what they want to everyone else and get away with their crimes so long as they didn't go after his girlfriend.
Would this Character be a Hero, a very Light Anti-Hero, or some Other type of Protagonist?
4 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 4 JahrenIs there a distinct difference between Morality and Idealism and is it possible it have one without the other?
I'm just curious because I have become less and less of what I would consider Idealistic as I get older but my Moral beliefs haven't changed all that much for the most part and I have even had the full circle thought process experience when my morals did ''change''.
In my opinion morals boil down to don't actively destroy things for only your own benefit while idealism is a steadfast belief in an idea that might or might not make the world a better place when it's put into practice. For example you don't have to believe in the ideals of Capitalism, World Peace, Democracy, Marxism, National Socialism, and Social Engineering in order to believe that hedge funding, creating a wars for profit, manipulating the results of elections, having a government rule in an iron fist or terror over its people. or having a master race control society, and violating an individuals free will as all morally wrong.
Am I off in making a distinction between Morality and Idealism or dose this distinction really exist?
1 AntwortPhilosophyvor 6 JahrenDose Criminalizing the Possession of non-firearm Weaponry Violate the U.S. Constitution?
Would you agree that the U.S. constitution should grant mentally healthy; and competent, Americans the right to bear any non-military grade weaponry that they so choose to desire for the purpose of self-defense and defense of the lives of others?
No where in the U.S. constitution dose it state that the "Right to Bear Arms" strictly refers to firearms only but in stead uses the terms arms, as in armaments or weaponry in general and James Madison himself supports this in a court statement: “Are they not ourselves. … Congress have no power to disarm the militia(the American People). Their swords, and every other terrible instrument of the soldier, are the birth-right of an American. … The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.”
If a state government criminalizes the possession of a non-firearm weapon for the purpose of defense of life, .... is that state violating Our Federal Rights?
Should you as a citizen be allowed to carry defensive knives, stun guns, batons, and martial arts weaponry with a proper permit?
2 AntwortenLaw & Ethicsvor 7 JahrenAm I Too Old to Re-learn German and Possibly a third language?
Growing up as a true child I was taught both German and English within precisely the same time frame and its difficult to say if I have a first language or not? However; due to the fact that the local population of where my friends and family were living were getting extremely irate with us speaking something other than English and to the fact that I was slightly better at speaking German than English, my Parents thought that it would be in my greater interest to stop speaking and reading in German when I was fourteen years old and unfortunately my friends parents made the same decision for their kids.
I have always wanted to be able speak three languages before I die; two Western and one East Asian, but I'm a 25 year old man right now and I'll be hitting 26 in five months and I'm wondering if my head is too old for this stuff. German is far from a ''foreign''language and infact I used to be fluent but I haven't spoken, read, or heard a word of it for as long as most middle school kids have been alive..As for an East Asian Language I will be as fresh as most Westerners with my only knowledge of Chinese, Japanese, or Korean being vulgar profanities which will not be very useful.
Am I too far gone age wise for either of these goals to be achieved?
