  • HDMI in-wall cable connection?

I am trying to run an HDMI cable from a wall closet to the TV. I already have a couple of ethernet cables running the same way and exit in wall plates on each end. I would like the same setup for the HDMI connection, i.e. have HDMI wall plates at each end.

I saw HDMI wall plates online and in my electronics store, but they all require reqular HDMI cables to be used in between. However, in my setup, there is not enough space in the conduit pipes that connect the both wall plates to pass a cable WITH the plugs through. The cable alone would be OK, but the plugs are too big.

Is there a way to only pass the cable and then add the plugs (or wall plates) after the cable is run? Similar to what you do when you run ethernet cables?

    - Was kostet ein neuer Verteiler normalerweise? Wie kann ich erkennen ob ein neuer oder gebrauchter Verteiler eingebaut wurde?

    Vielen Dank für die Hilfe.

  • Font Copyrights?

I am currently designing a logo for my wife's new company. The logo will be published on her website, on business cards and brochures.

While searching for the best font, I came across one that is included in Vista's basic font set (Andalus). However, MS is not the creator of the font, but some outside font foundry. Now I am wondering how the copyright situation works in this case.

I am aware that downloadable (free/for sale) fonts usually come with some sort of copyright text in their attached readme or on the website. But how is that with packaged fonts in Vista?

  • How can I find out how many traffic infraction points I have with the DMV?

I just recently switched car insurances and I was quoted a pretty good deal by Farmers. Now I find out that they raised my premium because my "Driver Safety Level" changed. The only explanation I have would be that I have points with the DMV for traffic infractions. The problem is that I never had an accident and only one traffic infraction that should have been cleared up by going to traffic school.

Is there a way I can find out how many "points" I have accumulated with the DMV and for what reasons? Any online option?

  • Utility trailer in California?

I am thinking about adding a trailer hitch to my Corolla and getting a small utility trailer for transporting stuff that is too big to fit in the car. I think the biggest hitch I can get is a Class 1 hitch, which would be all I really need.

In CA, do I need a special license, permit, license plate or anything?

Do I need to register a utility trailer?

Do I need to get it inspected before I take it on the road?

Anything I need to do besides adding the hitch and buying a (used) trailer?

  • Movers that don't pack?

I am not too familiar with the moving process. Therefore I was wondering if there are moving companies out there that just move your stuff and don't pack it?

    If there are:

    1) Are they cheaper?

    2) Are there any good ones in the SF Bay Area?

  • Home Owners Insurance - What to look out for?

We are currently looking for home owners insurance for our new house (first house) and now I have a few questions:

    1) What are the "important" questions to ask while getting a quote?

    2) So far I received several quotes already and all of them vary quite a bit. What are the most important points I have to look at, so I can compare "Apples-to-Apples".

    3) The property is sold in the $600k range, but the "replacement value" on the quotes is usually in the $200k to $300k range. Is it normal for the replacement value be so much lower than the selling price?

  • Where can I buy avocado trees?

I heard that avocado trees grown from a seed (at home) rarely produce edible/tasty avocados. If that is true, where can I buy young/semi mature avocado trees that product edible avocados?

  • Wiring without opening the walls?

I want to add Cat5 (Ethernet) connections to most of the rooms in my house. How can I run the cables through the walls without opening them?

  • Ideal Home Network (Hardware) Setup?

I am moving to a new house and I am planning to network all rooms. My plan at this point is to run Cat5e cables from every room to the garage, where I want to combine them in a patch rack. In the same vicinity, I want to place a router/switch to connect all rooms to a single modem. In addition, I would like to connect a dedicated server out there in the future.

    Here are my questions:

    - What is the CLEANEST way to accomplish the task. I am trying to avoid the "home-build" look and are planning on going for a (semi-)professional set-up.

    - Once the cables come out of the wall, should I first feed them into their separate patch cabinet (in-wall? wall mounted?) or should I feed them straight into a small (wall mounted) server rack.

    - What is the cleanest/safest/easiest way o run the cables through the wall/underneath the floor? Are racetracks the best way to go?

    - Are there any good web tutorials?

    - Where is the best place to purchase the equipment?

  • Home Owners Insurance?

My wife and I are planning on buying our first home and are currently shopping for mortgages.

As a first time home buyer I am a little bit confused about a few things and I thought I just ask here :)

One of the mortgages we looked at (online, from our CU) listed a "Hazard Insurance Monthly" in the "Prepaids & Reserves" section (which is part of the closing cost).

    - I am aware of the need of Homeowners Insurance, but does that include or exclude Hazard Insurance?

    - The monthly rate for Hazard Insurance was listed as $1,900. That seemed extremely high to me, so my question is: What is an average amount for Hazard Insurance (or Homeowners Insurance in general)?

FYI: The home we are looking at is located in the SF Bay Area and will have a value of approx. $700,000.

    Any comment will be appreciated...
