HDMI in-wall cable connection?
I am trying to run an HDMI cable from a wall closet to the TV. I already have a couple of ethernet cables running the same way and exit in wall plates on each end. I would like the same setup for the HDMI connection, i.e. have HDMI wall plates at each end.
I saw HDMI wall plates online and in my electronics store, but they all require reqular HDMI cables to be used in between. However, in my setup, there is not enough space in the conduit pipes that connect the both wall plates to pass a cable WITH the plugs through. The cable alone would be OK, but the plugs are too big.
Is there a way to only pass the cable and then add the plugs (or wall plates) after the cable is run? Similar to what you do when you run ethernet cables?

There is currently one field-installable HDMI interconnect system available. It consists of insulation-displacement connection (aka IDC) HDMI connectors, bulk HDMI cable, and the appropriate field-termination tooling. The system is available from BTX Technologies. The potential downside is that they claim their IDC HDMI connectors and tooling will only work with *their* bulk HDMI cable.

Other moderately common—perhaps less expensive—options include HDMI-Over-Coax and HDMI-Over-CAT5e/6/7. Typically HDMI-Over-Coax will allow a little longer cable runs than ordinary HDMI or HDMI-Over-CAT5e/6 solutions, especially if you want to ensure transmission of 1080p signals, though the latest HDMI-Over-CAT5e/6/7 chipset solutions have largely eliminated cable length differences between HDMI-Over-Coax and HDMI-Over-CAT5e/6/7 twisted-pair. Also, with the increasing number of single-cable HDMI-Over-CAT5e/6/7 solutions there is no longer any need to use an HDMI-Over-CAT5e/6/7 solution that requires dual runs of CAT5e/6/7 LAN cable for any video application requiring 1080p or less. Please be aware that if you choose to use any of the CAT5e/6/7 *balun* solutions without taking additional precautions you may experience EDID issues if you are a subscriber of direct broadcast satellite (or cable) television service. One last item…as one would expect if you would like to ensure compliance with the latest HDMI standard, such as HDMI 1.4, you will likely encounter a more limited (and generally more expensive) range of options from which to choose at the present time, for example HDBaseT solutions.
