Can you tell a difference in a soldier after being trained combat wise?

Does basic training make a soldier better than the average civilian or even other nations soldiers (from the US). Are our soldiers generally noticeably better than other nations in general combat?

Basic Training is an indoctrination to the Army. It prepares the soldier for future training. It doesn't prepare one for combat but lays a foundation where other training will.

It is like the Kindergarten of the military. You learn how to walk like a soldier, talk like a solder, dress like a soldier, and fold underwear like a soldier. You learn basic skills that will be developed later in more advanced training.

It also weeds out the non-hackers or those who can not or will not conform to a military lifestyle. It is where you see what you are made of and learn that you can do more than you thought possible.

  • while training is important it is up to the individual to be a good soldier, I know this woman who was a Army Reservist and she had the training but was a huge coward who got scared of blank rifles going off during a training exercise which would make her a liability in combat.

Americans are pretty good, but, not the best individual soldiers. However, you can tell a soldier by looking at them. That's what people tell me - I look like a soldier, all these years later.
