What kind of established rapper do you prefer?

Do you prefer that an established rapper (e.g. Jay-Z, DMX, Nas) rap about the same things they've been rapping about their whole career or do you respect when they change their style and lyrical content?

For me it really depends. DMX for instance, his "Undisputed" album was TRASH (except for 1 song "What they don't know" http://youtu.be/qYTu8PUG1WY ).

On the same note, Jadakiss still spits with that 90's style which i appreciate because thats the Jada i like best.

What are your thoughts on this?

Update:

@Asky lol, word i feel you on Jada. He always did rap ahead of his time. Your also right about Face. He was rappin on some other shi7 back in the Getto boys days and a little after that.

Well I like Jay-Z the most and I feel like he's switched it up a lot over the years as he became more rich and successful.

I also disagree about Jada still rapping like it's the 1990's. I think his style was never really very 90's to begin with, he just raps how he raps.

But thinking of someone who has changed a lot over the years, I look at Scarface, who doesn't even rap the same way he did when he first came out, which is a really good thing because he had that terrible 80's flow when he first started and raps nothing like that now.

Quelle(n): Yeah, Jada did rap ahead of his time, I never thought of it like that. That's true.

Peace. I like when a rapper doesn't stay stuck in the past. It's like you're not in the streets anymore robbin and you ain't the same cat so as far as that goes... your bluffin. I did appreciate to though that DMX did change it up after the first verse and rapped about other things. If a rapper who came from the street life talked about his street life in his first cd, then in his second and etc. then I'm like... come on dog who are you and what are you giving me because this isn't who you are. I expect to see growth because that's real.

    Peace.

I'd prefer a rapper to stay with what made them famous to a certain extent. I mean, I don't think a rapper should completely change everything over time because normally that doesn't work out well but small changes are normally good. I also don't wanna here a 40 year old rapper with millions acting like he's still selling coke. Small changes are generally good

I don't mind if a rapper changes his style, as long as he's not trying to be something he's not. Like when Eminem tried to be gangster and sh!t with the song 'toy soldiers'. It didn't sound right cause that's not him.

difficult call, because of fact there are greats in the two lists. yet in simple terms based on the albums i could be plenty extra probably to hearken to, i think of team 2. If i ought to replace Talib Kweli with Biggie, that must be suited!

i like to watch artists evolve for the better. but i hate to see artists sell out. all artists evolve and progress. that should be the aim. but a lot of artists sell out. to reach more people or get more money or sale more albums but the music quality becomes ****. think like wale. i used to love wale, but its undeniable his music is not what it used to be. i still listen to AD but i refuse to buy Self Made Vol. 2 (not after hearing vol 1. no!!) but j. cole who came out around the same time hasn't moved far left from his basis to become more mainstream, but its indisputable that he's progressed as an artist
