why did they try someone for praying for their child?
on court t.v. they tried a couple for not taking their child to the doctor but praying for him instead. but on a commercial on another station it says that medical malpractice kills more people each year than breast cancer and two other ailments. and there is a commercial that says if this drug does not cure your depression it may give you increased thoughts of suicide. and another one says do not stop using our drug with out doctor supervision because it may cause increased chance for death.
so why are they trying parents for praying? todays medicine has such a good track record?

First of all...you believe everything you see in commercials? Second, what was wrong with the kid? Most of the time kids have very curable ailments with zero or close to zero risk of something going wrong in the hospital. It's not likely that the kid needed a heart transplant or brain surgery. Not that it would make a difference if he did because prayer wouldn't fix a problem like that either.
There is nothing wrong with praying really...because it does nothing. But you need to take action in the physical reality in order to make you child well. If you're going to sit there and just pray you might as well sit there and watch TV and pretend that nothing is wrong while assuming that everything in every commercial is 100% factually accurate.

The tried the parents for failing to seek medical treatment which caused harm. While medical treatment may have its problems, it is still really reliable and the only thing we know works. Prayer does not work at all and they have done tests on it and nothing happens. it is the worse kind of incompetence to let your child get very sick and just sit and pray.
Of course you need to get medical help. If the medical help fails you need to find another doctor. You have to be kidding if you think it ok.
The poor kid had no say in it it either and the parents stupidity cost the poor kid its life.

It would have been completely fine if they'd prayed and they'd gone to the doctor, but failure to provide medical care for those in need is actually child abuse. Modern medicine is a relatively recent practice, but those who live BECAUSE of it are a huge amount higher compared to those who die because of medical malpractice. It's just that we expect them to live, so when they don't it's remembered.
Plus, you only put anti-depressants as your examples. They're incredibly difficult to work with because people are depressed for different medical reasons and also because they're rather new as well.

Any medical action at all is far more effective than any amount of prayer.
You are probably an anti-vaccination proponent as well. In which case the question you should have to answer is "why do want to expose your children to preventable diseases?"

As you know, the problem was not about the praying dear, it was about refusing to give proper medical care to the child. The proper thing to do is to get the sick child to the hospital first, then, if you are so inclined you can dance naked in the moon light or indulge into any other delusional activity you please...
