Who can help me find a Cake recipe?
As a teenager on my visit to scotland I eat this wonderful cake but I don't remember its name. It was a dark spicy bread like cake sometimes served with butter.

Looked through many, many recipes. Was it Scottish gingerbread? I saw the site from the first answer but it didn't seem as authentic as this recipe. It requires less molasses.
If this isn't it, do you remember any ingredients?
Scottish Gingerbread
Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup white sugar
3/4 cup molasses
2 eggs
1 cup beer
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup diced candied orange peel (optional)
1/2 cup finely chopped almonds (optional)
Method :
1. Stir together the flours, spices, and baking soda.
2. In a large bowl, cream the butter or margarine with the sugar and molasses. Beat in the eggs, then the beer. Beat the flour mixture into the creamed mixture. Stir in the raisins, orange peel, and almonds. Turn the batter into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
3. Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 40 minutes, or until done. Transfer to a rack to cool.

Scottish Recipes: Oatmeal Gingerbread
Here is a recipe which uses one of the staples of traditional Scottish diet, oatmeal.
Recipe Ingredients:
6 oz flour
2 oz oatmeal (Most Scottish recipes as for fine cut oats)
2 oz soft brown sugar (light brown sugar)
2 oz butter
2 tablespoons black treacle (molasses)
1 teaspoon of ground ginger
1 teaspoon mixed spices
1 large egg
1 level teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
3 tablespoons milk
Note: In Britain a tablespoon holds 17.7 ml while the American tablespoon holds 14.2 ml so you may have to make some adjustments to the above (British) quantities.
Preparation Method:
Line a seven inch square baking tin with greaseproof paper which has been well buttered. Melt the butter, sugar and treacle in a saucepan over a gentle heat. Sieve the flour and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl. Add the oatmeal and spices. Add the melted butter and treacle mixture, a well beaten egg and the milk to the bowl, stirring well until completely blended. Pour into the baking tin and bake in a pre-heated oven at 350F/190C/Gas Mark 4 for about 45 minutes. Allow the cake to cool for ten minutes before turning out onto a wire rack.

May this is it.
This is another from ChowHound. The thread discusses the famous Grasmere Gingerbread which is light but then a "darker" recipe:
Recipe 2 is for a "browner" version of the Grasmere gingerbread: sift together 250 g wholewheat flour, 1/2 tsp each of baking soda and cream of tartar, 3tsp ground ginger; rub or cutin 175g of butter, then add 150g dark brown sugar and 1 "dessertspoonful" of golden syrup and mix well into a crumbly mixture. Press this into a tin as above, and bake for 45-50 min at 325F til golden brown, trim, and cut into rectangular biscuits.

Hi there,
It sounds like a wonderful cake! I had a little look on the UKTV Food website and found an entire A-Z index of Scottish recipes. It can be found at http://uktv.co.uk/Food/itematoz/sid/463
You may have more luck than I had with finding what you need, but here are a few of the recipes I picked out from your description:
Dark, sticky gingerbread with a lemon drizzle topping http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/608962
Ginger topped oat cake http://uktv.co.uk/food/peoplescookbook/recipe/aid/...
Good luck and if you find out the name of the cake let us know! You can follow us on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/uktv.
Kind regards,
Lise
