Pregnancy following missed miscarriage...?

I'm 4 days past my due date for my period; I have tested +ive with a digital and 2 normal pregnancy tests; but I am soo scared that I'll have a missed miscarriage again. I almost wish that the last one was a normal miscarriage so that I might know what signs to look out for, but last time I "carried" for five weeks after the miscarriage until the scan picked up that the baby had stopped growing.

What can I do to stop worrying? What are the chances of it happening again? When will I be able to enjoy my pregnancy?

Update:

I haven't even been to the dr's to get this pregnancy confirmed yet - because I am so scared that by the time the results come back I will have lost it. I know this is irrational - and I'm not normally an irrational person; but it is so hard.

Update 2:

I actually had a scan at 7 weeks with the last pregnancy, and everything was ok - but the next scan (13 weeks) showed that in the 8th week the baby had stopped growing, so I don't even think an early scan will put my mind at rest.

With your history, you should get a blood test done at the doctor and ask them to approve that you have weekly blood drawn at their office. This means that they can monitor the growth of the baby by looking at the increase in hCG over the next few weeks until they start doing ultrasounds etc. It will make you feel WAY better about you new and exciting pregnancy. Congratulations!

ps: also I found this to be useful: the rate of miscarriage after they've heard the heartbeat is only 5%. The risk after they've SEEN the heartbeat is a miniscule 1%. So one you've reached those hurdles, you will find that you stop being so worried!!!

I have had the same thought as well,i had a miscarrige last year, and i have keep thinking if i get pregnant again how scared im gonna be. Early scans can sometimes be worse than good as if you scan too early it maybe to early to detect anything and then you'll worry for nothing. i think asking for weekly hcg bloodtests maybe the best option, they can monitor your levels then.

There is no more chance of it happening again becasue you have had one. studys show that up to 13 weeks is the most commen time to miscarry, 8 weeks is the most commen time in that period. about 25% miscarry but this figure is so high as we can now find out before a missed period we are pregnant, where as before it would be put down to a late or heavy period. After 13 weeks it goes down till less than 5%. They say almost every women will miscarry at some point although sometimes its so early that the women does not no. So my fingers are crossed that you have had your one and that this pregnancy will give youa beautful baby.Good Luck and Congratulations.

PS even after 13 weeks you will never stop worring.

If you dont bleed with you miscarriage, there is really no way to tell if you are miscarrying. Because of your past history, you dr will probably want to do weekly or bi-weekly ultra sounds. My friends sister went through the same thing. A "missed miscarriage" The ultra sound picked up that it wasn't growing anymore, and then the next one showed no heart beat.

You just have to let nature take it's course.

GOod luck and I hope everythign works out for you.

I had a miscarriage in May of this year. I am terrified that it will happen again. You need to try not to think about it. You don't want to stress out. Go get a scan and a blood test to see how things are going. If your HCG levels are multiplying properly you'll have less to worry about. Try to relax, get your prenatal vitamins and stay hydrated and pray! That's all you can do. I wish you the best!

even tho it is still very early days, you should talk to you GP, they should be able to arrange for you to have an internal scan done, fairly early on, just to pick up the heart beat....my friend had an ectopic pregnancy back in november, and lost a tube on one side, she is now 5months pregnant after that loss, and because of what happened, and her concerns she was given an early scan just to ensure that the baby was in the right place, maybe something similar could be done for you, good luck hun, hope it works out for you (as for the worrying, i am 4 months pregnant, have had a scan and heard the heartbeat, and i still worry, its normal)

When you go to the doctors, you should inform him of your past miscarriage. You will be monitored carefully, but to be honest you will only make it harder on yourself if you stress and worry. As hard as it may seem to do you must find it in yourself to congratulate yourself on your pregnancy and start enjoying it rather than stressing as this will only cause impact on your body and pregnancy

    congrats

You're definitely pregnant. It's possible to have false negatives but very rare to have false positives. You really only needed to do 1 test.

Anyway, next step, make an OB appt. ASAP and tell the secretary scheduling the appt. your situation so they can make it soon.
