Moving plants when moving house (perennials)?
I'm moving 800 miles, to a similar hardiness zone, and would like to take some plants with me from the yard. These are specimens that I've collected over the years, some of which were hard to find and/or expensive. Or they're species that shouldn't be hardy but apparently are, so I want to hang on to them!
They are all perennials (except for one climbing rose) and I'm wondering if I need to take all of the upper (currently flowering) section, or whether I can just take the root stock (which would be a LOT easier for packing :)
The selection includes: hostas, black-eyed susans, allium, and herbs. Any ideas? Thanks so much in advance!
4 AntwortenGarden & Landscapevor 1 JahrzehntMy most obscure question so far: pregnancy, pheromones, perfume and mosquitoes?
You know that place behind your ear where women sometimes put perfume? Well, that's the spot where all the mosquitoes try and bite me. When I wasn't pregnant they would go for my legs or bum (you know, bigger surface area etc :) LOL
But now it's the tiny little space behind my ear. This morning I took the dogs out and there were 4 mosquitoes on my right ear and 3 on my left (not all at the same time) trying to bite me. Does anyone know if it's a high pheromone area or something? Slightly freaky!
ps: apparently pregnancy has also made my skin way more sensitive, so I killed all the buggers before they latched on because I felt them landing!
3 AntwortenPregnancyvor 1 JahrzehntTo all pregnant ladies out there -- check this out!?
Good afternoon girls! Thought you might all enjoy this website http://runpee.com/
It's a site (or iPhone application) which seems designed just with pregnant women in mind. You know how it's really hard to sit in the cinema when you're dying to go to the toilet because you don't want to miss anything important in the movie? This website tells you all the current films and when in the movie is the best time to go pee!
Check it out :)
4 AntwortenPregnancyvor 1 JahrzehntHeartburn in pregnancy .... timing?!?
So here's what I don't understand....
I know that if you eat big meals, late in the evening, then lie down immediately, you're going to run the risk of heartburn especially in the 3rd trimester when the stomach is distended from its normal position (thanks to the baby).
What I don't get is that I can eat a normal meal, sit upright for 3+ hours before going to bed, sleep comfortably for 4 hours, and THEN suddenly the heartburn strikes! What's going on?!
5 AntwortenPregnancyvor 1 JahrzehntHow to move a washing machine 800 miles and still have it work after the move?!?
I'm moving house and my mother says that (at least as far as she remembers) it's very hard to move a washing machine and still have it working at the news house. Something to do with balancing out the drum again. Does anyone know if this is a load of rubbish, whether it's something HER mother told her (ie: dates back to the 19th century!) or what? Thanks!
5 AntwortenMaintenance & Repairsvor 1 JahrzehntMedical question about Endometriosis?
OK this is a little off topic ... so I have heard that pregnancy can 'cure' endometriosis. That's what my OB said, but I suspect he was over-simplifying it for me :)
My question is, how could it be 'cured'. Does so much of the endometrial lining get shed in the birth or afterbirth process than it totally rebuilds itself to a level you'd find in puberty?
I'm 32 weeks right now, but I had stage 2 (mild) Endo before pregnancy which made it hard to get pregnant. I'd like to try again in a few years and am just hoping the Endo will have gone away :)
Thanks everyone!!

3 AntwortenPregnancyvor 1 JahrzehntGood morning ladies! Which Baby Shower gift was the most invaluable to you?
Which gift would you not want to live without? I'm trying to make my list small enough to be manageable but comprehensive enough that I don't have a Homer Simpson 'DUH' moment after the event, when I wish I'd asked for something different :) LOL
Thanks all!

10 AntwortenPregnancyvor 1 Jahrzehntfor new Mummies who had a Cesarian section .....?
Did your medical team allow or encourage you to do upper abdominal massage to help involution? I know it's common in many hospitals if you've had a vaginal birth, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to do the same thing after my mandatory C-section. Any ideas ladies? Thanks!
9 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 1 Jahrzehntsimple question about glucose tolerance?
I'm about to take the 3-hour Maternal Glucose Tolerance test, and for the next 3 days I'm on a 150g carb diet. Here's the thing: the 'diet' they suggested is almost identical to what I am already eating (pasta and bread, fruits, etc)
My question is twofold
1) will the fact that my body already eats that kind of diet affect the results in any way?
2) did the fact that I was on that diet skew the results of the 1-hour test I did last week, thus requiring me to take the 3-hours test.
I'm not looking to alter the data here, just trying to understand the process. I want to be healthy and get to full term because I'm already high risk.
Background: I started pregnancy at 122lb (5'4") and am now at 160lb. Vegetarian (+ fish 3 times a week) taking Prenate DHA, age 38, at 30 weeks gestation. Thanks all!!!
3 AntwortenDiabetesvor 1 JahrzehntNew mummies: if you had a c-section because of placenta previa ...?
I've read that an epidural or spinal block would not be recommended for a cesarian section because of full placenta previa. I'm a little upset to think that my only option is going to be a general anesthetic, so I'm wondering if anyone out there has had an epidural for this condition and surgery? I want to see my baby being born!!!! Thanks ladies :)

I don't believe it. www.peeonastick.com has gone! Where are we going to get all our POAS information from now?!?! That was my TTC bible for 3 years :( SO SAD.
Trying to Conceivevor 1 Jahrzehntbreaking news on fertility - check out this link, ladies!?
I thought this was a really interesting link (below). Many of us have been told to abstain every other day, and this BBC article seems to go against that theory:

3 AntwortenTrying to Conceivevor 1 JahrzehntWhat are the differences between the various cotton diapers/nappies and which would you recommend?
I know that there are lots of good websites out there, but the lingo is very complicated and I'd rather not have to learn a whole new language to be able to understand the difference between the various washable nappies/diapers!
So I'd really like to hear personal stories about this kind you've used and would suggest (or not suggest!). I'm hoping to use the paper liners, if that's any help.
Thanks ladies - I'm in the USA but UK answers very welcome too. Currently 27w 3d. I'm 38.
3 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 1 JahrzehntHow do we petition the people at Y!A to set up a separate Abortion category?
Does anyone else feel as strongly as I do that the pregnancy section is probably not the best place or people to ask gory abortion questions? I'm actually pro-choice (yes, I went on all the marches and demonstrations when I was a student :) LOL, but these stories are often rather disturbing, sometimes hidden within more general questions, and as we all know, pregnant women are more emotional than other women. So maybe they could spare us the trauma!
Anyone got thoughts on this?
Thanks all

9 AntwortenPregnancyvor 1 Jahrzehntif you had to choose one South Park DVD, which would it be?
I'm tempted to go with some of the earlier classics, like the first Thanksgiving episode or (of course) Mr. Hanky, but can you suggest a single DVD that has some really fabulous episodes. It could either be from a single season or a compilation; just something to introduce the characters and the sense of humour. Thanks!
1 AntwortComedyvor 1 JahrzehntHow long before a cholesterol test should you do a Liver Cleanse?
I did the Liver Cleanse (the one that involves Apple Juice, Epsom Salts, Olive oil and Grapefruit) a week ago, and it was amazing! But I'm having a cholesterol test on Monday morning and was wondering if I've got enough time to do another test before then, and whether I should do it on Friday or on Saturday night. How long do you think it would take for the next load of Gallstones to be fully excreted and the cholesterol in the blood to be affected by this second cleanse. Any ideas?

Apart from Tums and Rolaids, does anyone have any home-made solutions. I've tried Ginger candies and they work well. Anything else you'd suggest? I'm 23 weeks along; sudden, merciless heartburn began yesterday with no warning. Thanks all!
