What is generally better: Being a lead or a manager?

Question

I am offered the choice of two positions:
One is a technical lead, no or only few people reporting to me, I will distribute tasks and lead efforts.
One is a manager position, less technical responsibility, more people management.

Which position is generally better to advance me in my career?
I feel like the lead position will get me more recognition and establishment within the company and the managing position will be less of that, but may be more appealing from the perspective of 3rd person, such as another company.

think about you situation 
can you be there no matter what?
Can you take the rap for the employee under you even if it not  your fault  ?
and Do you want more money and I'm talking a bout salary .? 
IF yes Manager is what you want 
If you Just  want some sort of say so in what goes on 
and Making just a little more the your fellow employees
if you want  to give bad news ,even though you don't want  LEAD Position is for you.
