I have 2 lamps that turn on by touching the lamp and in the middle is a nice large Samsung plasma TV.

Randomly, the lights turn on/off by themselves and the light under the TV that indicates if the remote is sending something to the TV flickers although nobody is doing anything with the TV.

What is the reason for this?

I am offered the choice of two positions:

One is a technical lead, no or only few people reporting to me, I will distribute tasks and lead efforts.

One is a manager position, less technical responsibility, more people management.

Which position is generally better to advance me in my career?

I feel like the lead position will get me more recognition and establishment within the company and the managing position will be less of that, but may be more appealing from the perspective of 3rd person, such as another company.
