How can I get rid of the plastic taste of the water in my bike-water bottle?

I've already washed it in the dishwasher and by hand

If the bottle has a number 7 on the bottom throw it away.

Hard plastic lexan bottles made with polycarbonate plastics and identified by the #7 recycling symbol, may leach BPA.

If it is a stainless steel lined bottle, you would just change the water. If it is a plastic bottle, then you probably have plastic leaching into the water. Throw it away and get a glass or stainless steel lined water container..

I wonder if the biodegradable plastics made from corn would be safer? My friend bought water bottled in it from a health food store. The water is a little higher priced, though.

Pour 1 cup of vinegar into the bottle and let it soak overnight. Then drain the vinegar and you will be sure to have that horrid plastic taste gone. Or----you could try a combination of onions and honey, mixed well and poured into your bottle. Let it sit for a few hours, drain---and Voila!! that plastic taste is gone!! Good luck with that!

    very interesting question.

you could try canola oil, to cover up the plastic.

even some kind of paint (some aluminum bottles are painted inside for acid fluids like orange juice or soda)

a zipper bag or such inside.

    hot water, salt water

let the bottle air out for a while, store bottle unclosed

besides: that smell is never a good sign - was it an expensive one? which brand?

    let us know what worked!

You can't its part of the bottle material.

We got my husband a Sigg. Find them at REI or other sports stores. They're fabulous and keep drinks very cold as well. They have a special flip-top you can buy for ease of drinking. About $18 but well worth it. :)

He has the one that looks like silver on the outside.

Also, we purify our water with the Big Berkey (which the Red Cross uses). Then we fill the Sigg with that purified water. It's the only water my husband drinks, now and he travels for sales throughout the day and has to have his Berkey/Sigg water! lol

To geyt rid of "plastic smells", use salt water to wash the bottles.

Perhaps if you squeezed some lemon juice in your bottle, the lemon taste will over power the plastic taste.

    Just a thought..
