Are you better off confessing?

My 21 year old son has 2 warrants for probation violation (minor original charge) and failure to appear. last night he fled from the police at a high rate of speed in his girlfriends car (with no license). They KNOW it was him. He wants to turn himself in today. Is he better off just walking in, keeping quiet and waiting for an attorney, or saying, "yes, it was me, etc. Either way I know he's going to jail.

(pretend this is your kid)

He should stop the cycle of bad decisions. Retain an attorney if possible, and simply turn himself in,preferably with the attorney present. It can be argued at that point, his judgment is sound, but he made a bad impulsive move in fleeing in the face of the warrants, and he is trying to make change in his demeanor.

Its all about "damage control" at this point.Might as well play what few cards he has....Best of luck.

If I were your son I'd get an attorney and then turn myself in. I think it is best to be cooperative and exercise the right to remain silent. The police will do their job but you do not have to help them. There is a difference between the police knowing something and being able to prove it, that being said there is no guarantee that they can.

Kick his @ss for not being an adult about the way he lives his life first off. Then get an attorney then have him turn himself in. It doesn't matter if he goes in and say anything or they find it out in court. There are minimum and maximum sentences he can get. They don't tack more on because he didn't talk. They will tack more on because he is a repeat offender.

He's better off turning himself in on the probation violations. Otherwise don't open up without an attorney.

Always consult an attourney to discuss your options before a legal situation - it is the smart thing to do. No one will fault him for doing so, as he is within his rights, and it is a wise move (sounds like the first wise move in a while). While chances are he will get time, he'll get less time with proper representation and sense of remorsefulness and a vow to stop being a complete dunce.

Get a lawyer first. Your lawyer will work out with the police how and when he will turn himself in.

I would get an attorney before I personally beat the crap out of him for being such a moron.

his sentance will b lighter if he hands himself in and pleads guilty. if it was my boy i would drag him down the station by his ears. he should just take whatever punishment he is given and if that means prison he can spend his time working out how he can change his life around when he gets out.
