Moving Down Under from Germany - how to go about finding work?

I'm German, married to an Ozzie, our son's 6 mts. Watching my wife going bonkers in the crummy winter weather here for the third time, it's time to move back Down Under. How do I best go about finding work and what can I do here in Germany to prepare our move? I'm a teacher of German and English, but am happy to do sth. else. If possible, we're looking to be close to her family in N. Gosford, NSW. Can't really leave this to her or her folks at the moment, so I need as much info as possible. Thanks!

you can go to www.seek.com.au .this website shows thousands of jobs in Australia, in many categories. You can see if there is work available where your in-laws live. That general area is called the "Central Coast".

the Sydney newspapers Saturday Morning Herald also has employment classifieds not sure of the website.

You will not have a problem finding a position because you are a teacher. You can write to the Australian Consulate nearest you and tell them you are going back to Australia. You will have to get visas anyway and your child will need a passport. My advice is to get the child a German passport and also an Australian one (but don't tell each that you are getting the other).

Also, I think you can look on line for jobs and email resumes.

You will love NSW. I lived there back in the 1980's (I am American). I lived in Moss Vale. Our place was just a hop down the lane to Fitzroy Falls.

I really think you are making the right decision because it is going to be a lot easier to raise a child in Australia and the German economy is not that great.

    Good Luck!

I dont know if your current qualifications allow for you to teach in Australia mate, and if they don't then it will be kind of hard to generalise and say yes you will find work or no you wont.

North Gosford though is pretty remote from the major cities on the Eastern side, (Sydney or Newcastle) and that will severely affect your employment chances, unless you want to commute daily.

I suggest you look to basing yourself nearer a city and commute to your wife's family at weekends. I live in Sydney and it was recently announced in our local papers that unemployment here is at it's lowest. For employers, (like me) that means we are having a devil of a job finding good labour. With that in mind, if you came to Sydney you would find a job reasonably quickly if you were not particular about what you did. Oh, and as to the weather in Germany? I can understand your reasons for wanting to be here. I wouldnt live anywhere else. :-)
