  • Were these migraines or tension headaches?

I used to get migraines as a teenager--2-3 per year. The symptoms were a throbbing pain in the back of my eyes (like there was incredible pressure on my eyes from inside my head). I would get tunnel vision and bright lights were extremely painful. I also felt extremely nauseous. Every single one ended with me throwing up, at which point the headache immediately subsided (this took about 1-2 hours).

I always assumed they were migraines. However I think it might have been related to my astigmatism. I always had 20/20 vision but I complained about not seeing the board clearly in high school and I got glasses which I used only during class at first. I initially thought the glasses were making my vision worse because every time I went to the optometrist, my vision was worse. At one point, during college, I noticed that I flat out couldn't see the TV clearly from about 10 feet away. So during college I started wearing my glasses on a regular basis (rather than just during lectures). My eyesight has since stabilized and I haven't had a migraine since I started wearing my glasses regularly (about 15 years since my last migraine).

So I wonder now whether or not I was having true migraines (even though the symptoms seemed to fit). I suspect that I was straining my eyes to compensate for my astigmatism. I think as I started wearing my glasses more and more, the muscles I was previously using weakened and I was no longer able to "force" myself into 20/20 vision.

  • Does a physical therapist have any discretion when it comes to a diagnosis and treatment?

I have been diagnosed with cervical radiculopathy due to a herniated disc in my C7-T1 boundary. But the problem is that my neck isn t in any pain--it s my mid and lower back. The physical therapists seem to only want to work on my neck and flat out refuse to address the rest of my back because the prescription is for cervical radiculopathy.

Do they honestly have no discretion in this matter?

  • What cooling solutions are really available for Ryzen?

This is my entire build, currently: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MCCcjc

I think the three relevant things are (besides that I'm definitely going with Ryzen 5):

    Cooler Master MasterLiquid Pro 280

    MSI B350 Tomahawk MoBo

    NZXT Phantom 240 Mid-Tower Case

The problem I'm having is that I've decided liquid cooling isn't really worth the price but when I go to change the cooling system in PCPartPicker, I get virtually no options (which doesn't include the Cooler Master that PCPartPicker is currently telling me is compatible...and that its specs tell me supports the AM4 socket).

Any suggestions of cooling solutions, right now it's $100 bucks but if I can knock off $20-$50 that would be great.

  • Wait for Ryzen MoBo or get an Intel now?

I'm building this for computing power not really gaming. I have written programs which can utilize parallel processing (and can envision writing more). So the three CPUs I'm looking at are 1) Kaby Lake quad-core, 2) Broadwell-E 6-core (10-core is too expensive for me), and 3) Ryzen 8-core. Here is my current build:

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pW4xNN

    Ryzen 1700X

    x370 (I think I only need B350)

    16 GB 2666 MHz

    M.2 PCIe x4 SSD

I'm also wondering if I should go with this mid-range GPU. I do have some programs written with Java3D which uses hardware acceleration. Would the better graphics card give a benefit there (over a cheap, bare bones, one)?

I'm kind of leaning towards this GPU since I think it would provide an adequate gaming PC if I decide to go that route. It almost seems like I'm wasting money if I don't make that switch.

  • Is there any limit to the number of hours that can be expected from a salaried worker?

I mean, can a salaried worker be expected to work 24/7 and if they are unable or incapable, can they be fired? That s obviously not my case, but I question what is reasonably expected of me.

I am "contracted" to be onsite from 8:05-4:45, with a 30 minute lunch (so 8 hours and 10 minutes a day). But there are obviously expectations beyond that 8 hour day. I figure that, to meet all of the expectations, I would need to work 72 hours per week (a full 30 hours above my "contract" hours).

How do I use RawTherapee to get my RAW (NEF) pictures to a decent state?

As below, the preview shows a great photo (looks like the processed JPEG from the camera) but after I double click to edit, it goes to the "raw" image which is washed out and I can't seem to get it back to the "nice" image of the thumbnail.

  • For Christians that believe in hell: why did God create humans?

Assuming that hell is eternal torture, why did God create humans which he knew would be tortured for eternity?

From a humanistic standpoint, I have two very different interpretations:

    1) A programmer's prospective. There are "good" and "bad" programs. "Good" programs live and "bad" program die. But this is not eternal torture--it's just death--lack of existence.

    2) A malevolent breeder's perspective. Perhaps I breed dogs. The good ones I sell and/or nourish and the bad ones I do not kill rather I beat them for the rest of their lives. Is it moral that I abuse the "immoral" dogs for their entire lives?

  • Do Catholics have adult Sunday school?

I am an atheist but my wife is Catholic. I was previously Baptist and my family is mostly Methodist. I grew up going to Sunday school in the Methodist church and then around Junior High I started going to a Baptist church (which included Sunday school)--that is a long story...

I have told my wife that I am willing to go to church if we also go to Sunday school. It sounds like Catholic churches in general do not have something akin to Sunday school for adults (or even for children--except CCD every other week).

I guess my question is that 1) is it common for Catholic churches to NOT have Sunday school for adults and 2) am I out of line demanding that if I am to go to church, I wish to go to a church that offers Sunday school for adults?

  • How can I improve my team?

So I'm currently 2-6, but I'm not sure what I can do to improve my team. This is a 10 team non-PPR league (with 6 point passing TDs).

    QB: Matt Ryan

    WR1: Jordy Nelson

    WR2: T.Y. Hilton

    WR3: Mike Wallace

    RB1: Andre Ellington

    RB2: Eddie Lacy

    FLEX: Jerick Mckinnon

    TE: Jimmy Graham

(I don't think my defense or kicker is going to help or hurt)

    Bench:

    Ronnie Hillman

    Ryan Mathews

    Cordarelle Patterson

    Brian Quick

    Jordan Reed

I think I'm weak at QB and WR. I know my RBs aren't stellar, but I think I can afford to move a couple of them. I actually traded Kelvin Benjamin and Wes Welker for Matt Ryan (which I now regret).

I'm looking at two possible teams that might need an RB. One has A. Bradshaw, J. Bell, F. Jackson, Reggie Bush and their WRs are Golden Tate, Sammy Watkins, Roddy White, L. Fitz, and Mike Evans. Their QBs are Drew Brees and Joe Flacco, but I doubt they would part with Brees.

The other team has Asiata, McCoy, and J. Hill. Their WRs are B. Marshall, James Jones, VJax, Crabtree, Reuben Randle, and AJ Green.

    1) Do you think I should do anything?

    2) What would be reasonable to ask for (and for what)?

  • Should I trade Calvin Johnson to pick up Aaron Rodgers?

Now, before you automatically say no, look at our two teams. I am stacked at RB and WR. My only QB right now is Matt Ryan (who should be fine don't get me wrong--but he's not going to be Aaron Rodgers).

This is a standard scoring ESPN league (start 2 WR, 2 RB, and a 1 WR/RB/TE). I am already starting three RBs (Montee Ball, Gio Bernard, and Andre Ellington). My starting WRs are Calvin Johnson and Keenan Allen and I have Emmanuel Sanders, Michael Floyd, Mike Wallace, and Brandin Cooks riding the bench.

It seems like a shame to not be starting Michael Floyd or Emmanuel Sanders if I can get Aaron Rodgers and keep Matt Ryan as my backup.

As for his team, having Calvin Johnson doesn't actually help him a whole lot. He would give up Aaron Rodgers and be left with Andrew Luck. He actually needs RBs because he only has DeMarco Murray, Rashad Jennings, and Lamar Miller whereas at WR, he has Vincent Jackson, T.Y. Hilton, Golden Tate, Riley Cooper, Markus Wheaton, and James Jones. So getting Calvin Johnson would basically just push Golden Tate out of his FLEX spot and move Andrew Luck to his starting QB.

Best answer will go to whoever makes the best case.

  • Best way to format HFS+ to NTFS?

I recently got a Western Digital external HD: "My Book for Mac". Except I don't intend to use it for a Mac (the box says its Windows compatible with an initial format). Anyway, I have access to Linux (Ubuntu), Windows 7, and a Mac. I'm wondering which OS is best to use for formatting the drive. I would like it to be in NTFS format since I need it to work with both Linux and Windows (I do not need it to work with a Mac).

The hard drive is not recognized at all by Windows, so it seems I will not be able to format it there. I can format it to exFAT from the Mac. I assume then Windows would recognize it and I could reformat to NTFS. Is there any reason not do this? I read that Mac doesn't do a good job of converting to FAT.

In Ubuntu I tried to format from the "Disks" program, but it timed out--this program doesn't seem to be able to format anything (not to mention it didn't give me any options like NTFS, EXT, etc.). I started to follow this guide: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=267869 The following warning scared me from continuing: "WARNING: GPT (GUID Partition Table) detected on '/dev/sdc'! The util fdisk doesn't support GPT. Use GNU Parted."

  • Let's assume two things exist: 1) "god" and 2)" modern technology.?

How do you reconcile the two? Because the 2nd (technology) exists completely devoid of any divine thought--in fact many argue that the thought leading to modern technology is completely anti-theist (i.e. anti-creationists).

...and even if you are theist, you have to admit that no part of your bible suggests the technological revolution much less encourages it--isn't it the release of your religious beliefs that allows for technological development?

  • Why are atheists more Christ-like than Conservative Republicans who predominantly claim to be Chrisian?

My supposition is that atheists are more likely to be liberal (not democrat--but liberal). For the purposes of this question liberal means generally desiring the redistribution of wealth from the wealthy to the poor.

Christ preaches time and time again that the rich will not inherit the kingdom of heaven. He says things like sell all of your possessions and come follow "me". Why do liberals and Christ want the rich to give up everything they have earned?

    Luke 18:22-25

22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

    Mark 10:23-31

    Matthew: 19:21-24

  • How much pseudoephedrine can I get until they start thinking I'm a smerf?

I have had an ear infection since about August (2013). In late November I went to the Texas Med Clinic and they prescribed some antibiotics and suggested pseudoephedrine. Basically I got a 20 pack of 12-hour pills (pure pseudoephedrine) at the beginning of November. I then got two more doses (same pack) in December.

Then, when in January I got a horrible earache, I went to an ENT and he said I should take Claritin-D (loratadine and pseudoephedrine). Basically I've been on this since January. In two follow ups, the ENT prescribed more Claritin-D.

So basically, since November, I have gotten four 20 packs of 12-hour pure pseudoephedrine and just recently got a 10 pack of 24-hour Claritin-D (generic) and will have to get another one, a 6th one, to make it to my next doctor's appointment (he said to keep taking it until my next appointment) by February 27th.

So that's 6 things of pseudoephedrine in three months. Am I going to get in trouble for getting this much pseudoephedrine or is this dose considered "normal" for medicinal purposes?

  • Question on the ratio test for series convergence?

So I recently answered a question on series convergence: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Avx5N...

If you apply the ratio test, then the limit approaches 1 and the test is inconclusive. However, from an intuitive standpoint, this series should converge (see my comparison test) which shows that the exponents essentially differ by 2 and thus it should converge by the p-series test. But if you look at the result for the ratio test: you get the following limit:

    lim_{x --> ∞} n^(n + 1) / (n + 1)^(n + 1)

This does indeed converge to 1 (the limit) and thus the ratio test is inconclusive. HOWEVER, it approaches 1 from the "bottom". That is, it's ALWAYS < 1 until you actually get to n = ∞. If you can show that the the limit approaches 1 from the bottom (always from the bottom) can this break the indeterminance of the ratio test? Or conversely if the limit approaches 1 from the top, can you say that the series definitely diverges?
