Why are atheists more Christ-like than Conservative Republicans who predominantly claim to be Chrisian?

Question

My supposition is that atheists are more likely to be liberal (not democrat--but liberal).  For the purposes of this question liberal means generally desiring the redistribution of wealth from the wealthy to the poor.

Christ preaches time and time again that the rich will not inherit the kingdom of heaven.  He says things like sell all of your possessions and come follow "me".  Why do liberals and Christ want the rich to give up everything they have earned?

22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

I'd like to consider myself moral. I agree with some of Christ's teachings; the key points of Christianity are very well-meaning. Now I'm an atheist. I think that as a whole Christians are not hateful people though there are some that are hypocritical and focus on some biblical themes while ignoring others.

Hehe those who downthumbed my post most likely ignored the bigger picture.

If wealth is sinful why spread it from the sinful to those who have not sinned?

"Show Me the coin used for the poll-tax." And they brought Him a denarius. And He said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" They said to Him, "Caesar's." Then He said to them, "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's"

Materialism is of this world, the spirit is of God. Inviting people into materialistic sin isn't what Jesus wanted, he wanted people to put more interest into their spirit than they do materialism.

Christ preached for individuals to share their wealth...not have the government force them to do so.  Big difference especially when you are talking about saving souls.  Government redistribution enforces the mentality that you have paid your taxes and therefore done enough.  Charity redistribution enforces the mentality that it's never enough but pay what you can.  Which one supports a more Christ-like approach?

1,  Because what you are claiming is incorrect.  You are buying into stereotypes.

According to the Washington Post (which isn't exactly a bastion of conservatism)  both liberals and conservatives give equally in terms of charity.

In my opinion, conservatives are more likely to give their own money, and liberals are more likely to call for someone else to give the money.
