  • Catholic Statue Question?

OK I have a question for you all, I'm in possession of a small statue that I have no idea of the history of, thought one of you out there could clue me in.

The statue http://picasaweb.google.com/nascat/Statue was apparently a commemorative from Jubilee 2000, the bottom is inscribe "Iubilaeum AD 2000", there are three figures, the one on the left is female and is holding a Mug and a Loaf of Bread, we think this is St. Martha, the figure in the center is male, he has the bald tonsure of a Franciscan, we think this is St. Francis, the figure on the right is male has a Cross Breastplate and is holding a large sword, we think this is either St. George or St. Michael the Arch Angel..

What are your thoughts on this, who are the figures, what do the three together represent?

    Thank You,

    Michael

  • Brown Bread baking question?

While we were in Ireland every B&B and every place we dined would put out a bread basket, I grew to really love the Brown Bread, it was slightly different every place we went.

Here in the USA I have been buying online "Odlums" Brown Bread Mix; all you do is add water and bake. Well the bread came out dense and lacked something, I tried adding a 1/4 cup of dark molasses, this got closer but the bread was still dense, then I came upon Black Treacle, this was the flavor I was looking for, but the bread is still dense. I can't figure where I'm going wrong, it calls for kneading only a short time then immediately baking, I have baked this bread in loaf pans and I have baked it in a round on a baking stone always with the same result, it's OK, just a little dense.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to make an airier loaf. Or an alternative mix I can buy online.

Of course I could always come up with some money and go back to Ireland for a vacation and eat my fill.

    Thank you

  • Are Eurpean refrgerators really small?

When watching British Sitcoms here in the USA I'm always struck by the fact that the families always seem to have a refrigerator the size of one used in a Dorm Room. Do Europeans really use refrigerators that small and not like the 6 foot tall ones we use?
