How do you reply to "Thank you"?
Here in NJ., the most common reply is "No Problem!" Much like the Spanish version, "De nata", which I'm told means "It's nothing!"
However, I worked with a lady from the mid-west that was put off by this and told me it was rude. She preferred "Your Welcome!"
So, what's a common reply where you live?
10 AntwortenLanguagesvor 2 JahrenDid your Home Depot vegetable plants die this year?
When we planted our garden, we bought about 8 plants consisting of basil, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. We planted them throughout the garden amongst other plants we bought at nurseries. All of the HD plants slowly withered and died while the others are doing great. Has anyone else had this problem this year or should I just chalk it up to my local store having uncommon issues?
4 AntwortenGarden & Landscapevor 2 JahrenHave you ever been called a Hero?
When I was in my 20s, (30 yrs ago) my friend and I were fishing on opposite sides of a small river. I heard him yell and then a big splash. I started laughing and waited for the cursing and complaining to start. It stayed silent and I ran down yelling his name. I saw the log he had been on but he was no where around. The river got very shallow down stream so I would have seen him if he had floated down. I looked back at the log and caught a faint outline of his face flash about 6 inches under it where the current was pushing him back into a washed out hole. He had knocked himself out on the log. I jumped in and when I got to him, I grabbed him and threw him over the log face down. The force made him cough out the water and start breathing. Later, our friends started calling me a hero and it kind of made me upset because I was the only one there! There was no "choice"! I had to do what I did and I wasn't risking my life to do it. I just don't think that's what being a "Hero" is about.
Has anyone had an experience like this? How did you feel about it?
8 AntwortenPsychologyvor 2 JahrenWhat is the difference between Religion and Spirituality?
I always see people fighting about Religious and Non-Religious perspectives in this category. I found the following quote and wondered, What's your opinion?
"Religion is often about who’s in and who’s out, creating a worldview steeped in “us against them.” Spirituality rejects this dualism and speaks of us and them. Religion is often about loyalty to institutions, clergy, and rules. Spirituality is about loyalty to justice and compassion. Religion talks about God. Spirituality helps to make us godly. The two need not be at odds. Religion at its best is spirituality in community."

The other day we were headed somewhere and we were late because of her taking too long to get ready, (As usual) and as I was driving, she constantly kept telling me "Get in the fast lane! Were late!". But then, after a lot of babbling I didn't really listen to, she says "You know, you really are a bad driver! My Mom and ____ (her daughter) won't ride with you because you drive too fast and you tailgate". WTF! Now she can't understand why I'm mad at all 3 of them. I know I can't be alone on this one! Can anyone make me feel better about this?
3 AntwortenPolls & Surveysvor 6 JahrenWhat is the deal with the New Yahoo Answers Format?
Does anyone actually like the new Yahoo Answers format?
I have enjoyed helping others and sharing my experience on this site for the last five years. But, I find the new format to be 100% frustrating and totally unenjoyable. I originally liked it because it was less like a blog or forum and more like a welcoming space for people to share their lives and knowledge. I don't who in the vast Yahoo empire conceived this wondrous plan to revert Answers to the stone age, but, for stress reasons, I decline the option to continue frustrating myself in hopes of helping others.
8 AntwortenMy Yahoovor 8 JahrenHow long does nail polish last?
So, my Fiance went for a pedicure and manicure with her Sister and Daughter. They were all happy when they returned. The next day, my Fiance's polish started to flake off. She went back and showed the lady who replied "It's the oils in your nails! Everybody is different! Nail polish is only supposed to last a day or two anyway!". My Fiance told her that it always lasts her at least a week and they argued about it for the next ten minutes. Finally, the lady said "Alright, pick another color and we will fix it just this one time!" Then my fiance told her "No! Your not touching my nails and you just lost three customers!". Then she left while noticing there were no other customers in the place and everyone was just sitting around. (Big surprise) When she looked back she could see the lady flinging her arms around and running her mouth to the other employees.
So, the question is,
How long or durable should nail polish be if applied "Professionally"?

Now's your chance. There are soooo many "Experts" on here with multiple accounts so they can vote for their own best answer (Right or wrong) I thought I would give you all a chance to see who can vote for themselves the most. So, when I have enough answers I will let the voting Competition begin.
Thanks in advance for playing but only one can win.

3 AntwortenMaintenance & Repairsvor 8 JahrenIs it bad manners to just nod and smile?
There is a girl cashier at my local convenience store who I see daily. I'm not sure where she is from, but the only thing I can understand is "Hello! How are you?". After that, she may as well be speaking in clicks and whistles like the Bushmen of the Kalahari. I just smile and say something about the weather, and then pray that she doesn't ramble off a few clicks and stand there waiting for a reply. I never offer the usual "What?" (With raised eyebrows) that she must get all the time. I just try to wing it and get the hell out of the store as fast as possible.
So, I was curious about how other people handle these situations. What do you do?
5 AntwortenEtiquettevor 10 JahrenReplacement Window Installation?
Installers,
I ordered replacement Vinyl Double-hung windows that I will be installing in frames from 1970s wooden Double-hung windows. There are no sash weights or anything behind the frames. They just have an aluminum track that will be removed to expose the wooden jamb and stops. I've researched all of the "How to" stuff and it looks pretty cut and dry. I've been doing carpentry on and off for 30+ years. What I'm looking for are any tips from guys that do it day to day. Such as: Type of caulk? Polyurethane or Silicone II? Extra insulating needed? Best way to secure them? Etc.?
I'm really not looking for what your boss tells you to do! I'm looking for the extra stuff you would do if it was your house and you wanted to get the most from your money for years to come.
Thanks for any tips or feedback.

2 AntwortenDo It Yourself (DIY)vor 1 JahrzehntSmoking a ham, need some tips?
20 years ago a contractor I helped out smoked some hams for friends for Christmas. It was the best home made ham I ever ate. He said it was a regular "Shoprite" (supermarket) ham that he baked in the oven until it was 80% done then he smoked it for 6 hours. I bought a smoker last year and I'm sure some of you have some good recipes you can share. Or at least help me fill in the blanks. Maybe some internal temps, seasonings, smoking procedures, etc.
Thanks

I have had Dewalt cordless tools for years but lately I'm thinking I'm paying more for the name than the tools. I'm looking at Riobi combo sets. (a set of 4-5 tools for the price of one Dewalt tool) I have a Riobi chop-saw and it works great but never tried the cordless stuff. Anyone compared these in the field? What's your thoughts?
6 AntwortenMaintenance & Repairsvor 1 JahrzehntDo you have Home remades?
Most know that regular rubbing alcohol will take off label and sticker glue as good as goof-0ff will.
And that Coke will eat the rust off of anything! But, I see long threads on "how to waterproof boots" with all these expensive mink oils and waxes. Let me tell ya, I wear leather boots at work and I'm on concrete all day. The leather dries out and starts pinching and rubbing my feet. Every now and then I spray them with WD-40 or any other thin oil and it instantly softens (& waterproofs) the boot and makes my day soooooo much better. Of course, I'm not looking for a nice shine or a fashion statement. I just want to be comfortable without spending a fortune. Don't you?
