Nuke gone wild? Is this possible? What do you think?
Friends asked me if I knew about subterranean nuclear rocket bunkers, but I don't and can just guess, as these things are military secrets, I suppose.
Do they dispose of them properly, or is there really a danger of one of these things running wild, I was asked.

Are you talking about missile silos? If so, once a missile silo is deactivated and the missile remover it's left open for a period of time for satellites to verify that it's empty, then it's filled in with concrete and rubble...at least here in the U.S.

In the U.S., it is not possible, because the nuclear weapons are designed so that they cannot go off at ground level or underground. They have pressure switches so that they can't explode until they are launched, reach a certain altitude, and then come back down.
In other countries, who knows?
