APFT standards...age exemption?

Reposting because I haven't seen my original question come up.

I've checked AR 600-9 and did not find an age exemption. This came up after a senior Officer asked whether Soldiers over a certain age become exempt from having to meet APFT standards. Never heard of any such exemption, and didn't find one listed in the reg. Anyone else have guidance on this? We have BA this weekend and my leadership is usually very busy the week prior so I don't want to clog up their emails with this question since it really isn't a burning issue. But I was hoping to find out before the weekend and am coming up short on my own. Thanks.

Well, being that AR 600-9 is the Army Body Composition Program (formerly known as the Army Weight Control Program), it's not a surprise that you didn't find anything bout the APFT in it. The regulation that covers PT and PT tests is AR 7-22, Army Physical Readiness Training. FM 21-20 and TC 3-22.20 are both outdated and obsolete.

"SOLDIERS 55 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER NOW HAVE THE OPTION OF TAKING THE THREE-EVENT APFT OR THE ALTERNATE APFT. THE REQUIREMENT FOR AC AND USAR SOLDIERS TO TAKE THE APFT BI-ANNUALLY AND ARNG SOLDIERS ANNUALLY REMAINS UNCHANGED FOR SOLDIERS UNDER AGE 60. SOLDIERS AGE 60 AND OLDER HAVE THE OPTION OF TAKING THE APFT, HOWEVER, THEY MUST MAINTAIN A PERSONAL PHYSICAL FITNESS PROGRAM APPROVED BY A PHYSICIAN AND REMAIN WITHIN ARMY HEIGHT AND WEIGHT STANDARDS."
