Got a Job - when I should stop my unemployment benefits?
I've been receiving my unemployment benefits for 2.5 months, but I recently received an offer. I will start on January 1st. Meanwhile, can I keep receiving unemployment benefits until Dec 31st or should I stop it now? I know I'm responsible to pay taxes, so what's the pros and cons?
Also, I did some freelance job but they haven't paid me yet so I can't report to EDD that I got paid. However, they will pay for my work in January since this is still a work in progress. Will it affect EDD later? And yes, I will pay tax on this one also since it's over $600 (less than $1,000).

You report the job immediately, including start date. Unemployment decides when your benefits stop, not you.
You will owe on the freelance work regardless of amount, since you have other income (UE) - and it's $400, not $600 BTW.
Yes, you report the freelance work now, not later. You report when you are WORKING, not when you get paid.

With a new job starting Jan 1, your unemploiyment ends 12/31. The freelancing is a bigger problem though. Collecting unemployment for the time you were working and will be paid later was illegal, benefits fraud.

Since you have earned over $400 for the year, you are required to report all income.
The $600 regulation is for businesses reporting your income to the IRS.
If you aren't looking for a job between now and Jan 1, you can't continue to claim unemployment. If you ACTIVELY continue looking for a job and willing to accept any reasonable offer, you can continue to accept unemployment until Jan 1.
