You do know that it seems very strange to an Englishman that President Obama and his Democratic party can go to all the trouble of winning the last election,and then cant govern without the approval of the main opposition party (Republicans) ? Whats the point when they can paralyse the nation at a whim?

I admit to only partly understanding it,but it must be obvious Obama will want funding for his flag ship policy of Health care ? He isn't going to stand by and see it side-lined. Surely that's not fair on those who voted for him,many of the strength of his health reforms ? Mr Obama wont change.Why should he.

At the height of the Civil War we held an election. During the Great Depression we had an election. During WW2 we had an election. There's no reason to believe that the tradition of elections every two and four years will change. Of course in some states for various reasons you may not be able to vote unless you have your original birth certificate, but of course some Tea Party bum may insist the you were really born in Kenya and not allow you to cast a ballot. It would be funny if some Tea party lady with a teabag hat gets turned away because she 'doesn't look like a real American'. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

You do know that the president cannot declare martial law, right? There's that whole system of checks and balances you know.

Otherwise, this whole debt ceiling government shut down thing wouldn't have occurred.

The president can NOT serve beyond the end of this term. He CAN run again---in a future presidential election.

No if the true law was followed he would already of been impeached
