How long will a fresh turkey last?

I ordered a fresh turkey for thanksgiving. I'm concerned with how long it will last. It's being slaughtered 4 days before it will be cooked. Is this too long? Don't want people to get sick

No, that will be fine, as long as it is refrigerated.

Bravo for going to get a fresh turkey. If you really know it is only four days old, just keep it in the fridge and it will be fine.

no. it will be fine. if you are concerned just look for these things.

    1. wing tips are NOT BROWN ( darker then original color ) if it is. then it has aged. it is still fine to eat in most cases but flavor will have altered surely.

    2. bird is not sticky and does not smell or slimy.

make sure you wash the bird first. check for feathers still on it and pluck it off if their is any. remove left over organs inside the cavity.

it typically takes about 2-3 days just to defrost a frozen turkey in the fridge. DO NOT cook your turkey frozen. and DO NOT freeze it. you will damage your food by freezing it. freezing food causes the water molecules to expand and destroy the molecular structure of the food causing all the nutrients, flavor, and more water to come out ontop of that the texture will change as well. this is why frozen foods often look and taste worst then fresh foods.
