Mum and dad have an 9 year age gap (mum is 9 years older than my dad) they have been married for 18 years. My nan and grandad had a 4 year age gap (grandad 4 years older than my nan) were married until my nan died and at the time of her death they had been married 40 years. So yes it can work.
