Why does the US have a higher mortality rate than Malaysia?
The following are crude mortality rates for the US and Malaysia in 2009
United States
Crude mortality rate = 800 per 100,000
Crude mortality rate = 14 per 1,000
Life expectancy = 77.7 years
Malaysia
Crude mortality rate = 500 per 100,000
Crude mortality rate = 23 per 1,000
Life expectancy = 72.2 years
Can the lower crude death rate in Malaysia be explained by the fact that the United States
has a larger population? What factors could explain differences in birth rates and life
expectancy?
This is for my epidemiology class. Initially, I figured that a larger population would explain a higher mortality rate. More people equals more deaths right? But the rate is lower when 1,000 is used for the rate so I got confused. As far as the second question, I'd assume that there are differences in medicine and different diseases that are present. But info on this would help too. Im mainly concerned with how to elaborate on my answer. This is a discussion post, so I don't want to put one-word answers. I need a better understanding. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

This is another demonstration of our outdated medical system. "For Profit" medicine has failed. We DO NOT have good health care in the USA. We have a health care industry with very expensive, and effective lobbyists. We have a health care industry that's full of salespeople telling you and me how good it is, (Doctors) when even they know the system is lacking.
If you think your doctor is "on your side", or will continue to treat you when you, run out of money, just try it. YOU ARE GONNA DIE!!!!
Most physicians don't even try to "cure" you. They prescribe medication, with side effects, that require more treatment!! You can be sure, that your "trusted" physician, is heavily invested in the pharmaceutical company and/or it's distributors. Your diagnosis, and treatment, will be heavily weighted by his investments, and the income potential that you represent.
Our entire medical system needs to be nationalized, including private practices, and especially the insurance industry. It's worked quite well for the rest of the world. Our system isn't working at all!!

Our u . s . a . might have a not straight forward time imposing socialized well being care. we are actually not set up for it. you won't be in a position to in basic terms pass a regulation annoying that everybody have coverage because of the fact not anybody could have sufficient money it. you won't be in a position to in basic terms provide anybody who won't be in a position to have sufficient money coverage because of the fact the fee of first rate well being care is in simple terms too severe to pay without heavily elevating taxes, which might positioned greater human beings at poverty point earnings. What we would desire to do is decrease the fee of well being care. suitable now our fee is the utmost in the international. we are distinctly much two times as costly because of the fact the 2d costliest (consistent with capita) well being care gadget in the international this is Luxemburg. Our high quality of well being care is unquestionably one in all the backside of industrialized countries. this is derived from the toddler mortality value, common existence expectancy, and affected person mortality value. straight forward answer: the USA well being care gadget is plenty to costly for our u . s . a . to have sufficient money and we are actually not getting even component of our monies properly worth. we won't have sufficient money to socialise it as this is now. If we fixed it we probable does not could socialize it because of the fact well being care could be much less costly.
