Lick fingers to prevent leaving fingerprints?

Question

my friend told me that if you lick your fingers your removing the oil from your fingertips and so you wont be leaving behind fingerprints.  also it removes the oil which could be used to match your DNA and get you lockedup.  does this technique actually work though?  i mean in theory it all makes sense but i want to be sure.

I have very dry hands that leave so little oil on my fingers that I often do not leave any latent prints behind.  This has been a problem for me when getting fingerprinted for various positions of trust...after a while, the tech gives up in frustration, pulls out ink and a fingerprint card, and we do it the "old fashioned way".

You need exceptionally DRY fingertips for this to work.  You can't possibly lick away enough of your skin oils to do this.  Maybe if you used a strong detergent or something, but I suspect that anything strong enough might damage your skin or make it sore.

If you really have a reason to not leave fingerprints somewhere, gloves are a better idea.

No, you wear gloves instead.

And your saliva can contain DNA, your saliva will evaporate fairly quickly (since it's mostly water) and you'll be back where you started, unless you want to spend all night licking your fingers on your crime adventure.
