Tips on Caring for an older Guinea Pig?

My guinea pig is turning four!!! And has had a vet vist just a few months ago to clip his teeth and they said that he is very healthy for his age!! But I do know that he is getting older and I am wanting to know if there is anything that I need to watch for now that he is getting older or anything that I should start doing to make sure that he stays happy and healthy?

Thanks :)

Update:

Sadly I tried getting two, it turned into a fight and they had a falling out that they couldn't recover from my aunt adopted the 2nd one, Jerry, who is now living it up stress free. My Squeaker hangs out with our Chihuahua

Update 2:

... posted before I could add that our Chihuahua and Squeaker are the chummiest of friends :-)

Older male guinea pigs are more likely to need you to clean their anal sack for them, to prevent them getting blocked up (impacted). I have included a link below which is a guide from guinealynx on how to do this.

My sow is now five and she's healthy and happy! I've noticed that she seems to need a bit more vitamin c than she used to, otherwise she seems to be prone to developing health problems that do not affect my younger pig - she had a run of fungal infections and also periodically watery eyes, this stopped when I upped her dose of vit c, I put 40mg a day in for both my pigs (she also gets pellets with added vit c and vit c rich fruit and veg daily). When it was cold over winter I also noticed that she didn't seem herself, nothing specific, just less interested in food and less active than usual. She's indoors but in an unheated room, when I looked online I read that older pigs, like older humans, find it harder to maintain body temperature in cold conditions. I got her and her cagemate a "snugglesafe" (like a heat mat, you can find them on Amazon) and it seemed to cheer her up no end! Best wishes :)

If he is 4 now, you are doing fine! The thing to remember is that as pigs (and people too for that matter) age, they become less resilient and have a lowered ability to bounce back when sick or injured. That means that you need to be more vigilant about watching him for signs of illness and seeking treatment right away.

The good news is that the older a pig gets, the higher likelihood he has of reaching a ripe old age. The proportion of 4 year old pigs that make it to 7 (or older) is a lot higher than the proportion of 2 year olds that do and so on for 5 and 6 year olds

u should have got 2.theyr'e social animals and should be bought in pairs.I guess just take her of her cage and play with her, and buy her toys'make sure she has food and freash water at all times and keep her cage really clean.Keep taking her to the vet for regular checkups.give her treats like carrots.
