What would happen if I got arrested (in the US) and REFUSED to speak English?

Now, I'm not talking about pretending to be an "inmigrante que no habla ingles" - my Spanish is not even that good (intermediate, I suppose). But what I am talking about is a NON-English, NON-Spanish language, namely German (my "second" native language). German is not a popular language in the US, especially where I live (New Mexico - very few German speakers aside from maybe German tourists :)). In this country, it's way too easy to get arrested for the smallest infraction. Or, more likely, I'll (once more!) be involuntarily committed to a psych ward. If either of those situations ever happen, I'll REFUSE to speak English and only German. Doesn't that include "the right to remain silent" by not speaking English? It's not that I want to give the officers/mental health professionals "a hard time," but rather, when I'm fed up with life in the US, I only want to speak German so that no one will know what I'm saying, as in a code, so to speak (funny how back in the Early Middle Ages, (Old) English and German used to be practically the same language, but now they're different like night and day!).

I'd especially like to hear from law enforcement officers - how do YOU handle a detainee who doesn't speak English, but only a non-English, non-Spanish language? Do you detain the person until more info is found or is it a "get out of jail free" card (I doubt it)? I'm really only asking out of curiosity - I have good moral character and don't plan on committing a crime anytime soon.

This is very easily handled. We have a service to call that will provide an interpreter for every language we've come across so far.

After that, if we learn that you can speak English, the DA's office will determine if you should be charged with Obstruction of Justice.

If you ever get arrested, save yourself the trouble and just speak English.

If the officer truly feels you can't speak English, you would be detained and an interpreter would be called. I have a card on the visor of my squad with a toll free number. They can provide an interpreter for any language,

If the officer feels you are just refusing to speak English, you will be taken to the jail and booked. If you refuse to speak, you will sit in a holding cell until you change your mind. I doubt that would take too long.

You can't legally force him to pay half of the funeral cost. Let me ask you this, did you pay the entire funeral cost yourself because your brother agreed to pay his share eventually? So how is your own financial situation? Are you financially strap or has your budget adjusted very well after a year? Has your father left any liquid asset such as life insurance money, bank savings, stocks, bonds, material assets that can be sold? Please remember this, you spent your money on your father's funeral. Why is this causing you such agony? It's your father and your brother is simply irresponsible. If your father left some assets, why don't you make it a point to keep all these assets to yourself. It just seems fair to me and the table turns now. He's the one who's gonna be begging you for some. By you stop asking him for that money, he will eventually realize how greedy and irresponsible he is. It's your brother for God's sake. How many times did he really truly offend you? This is really not a good reason to break your ties with relatives. Think about it, it's ridiculous. One last thing, a hypethetical situation. What if your brother needs his money now for YOUR OWN FUNERAL SERVICE. Do you honestly think that he would turn his back on you? Think about it...............

Regardless of the Language they always have translators Come and have officers or lawyers, what ever it being that is either interrogation or simple questioning the Law Enforcement Agency will always have translators so just to make it easier on yourself you should talk English because it would be harder for you, Especially on the reverse psychology that they do on you..
