My son , an electrical engineer, working in Infosys for the last 1.5 years wants to take without pay leave and study for civil service full time. Is it good a idea.

Yes, It is a good idea provided he wants to enter admin area. Otherwise infosys itself will give him brighter opportunities in life.
Re. institute I recommend Vajiram & ravi, Rao IAS. He has to go to Delhi stay there and study like a real student for 12 hours a day. best wishes
