copying VHS to DVD, how to do this on the cheap.?

Righto, I have many many hours of mostly dull family home videos on VHS, and I need a way to copy them all to DVD with minimum cost outlay.

I have a VCR, and a DVDR drive in my PC. What is a simple way of connecting them together. The VCR only has SCART and RF outputs as far as I am aware.

I really don't want to spend much money doing this, as I need all my cash for booze.

Ta very muchly.

You need a video capture device. They make a gizmo you plug into the VCR and into a USB port. They get down to something like $30 here in the states.

Go to EBay and look for a 'video capture cable'. Usually they come with software for converting the captured video to a regular video DVD.

I don't think you can on the cheap, so here are how to do it in any way.

There are devices to make DVDs from VHS, but I think they cost a lot. Maybe a combo VHS/DVD living room player could do this?

You could try to capture the video while playing by getting some kind of a cable, maybe from another device? That gets you SCART to RCA. But then you would need some kind of a capture card for your computer to connect the RCA to PC (There should be PCI and USB ones?) and that costs again.

A TV adapter for the computer would allow you to connect the RF output to the computer. Then use its recording software to record what it sees (the tape). I use the Happauge 950-Q, but it sounds as if you're in GB or Europe so you'd need a different model (they make European adapters too).

I have a Sony VHS-DVD recorder that I got for under $100.00 that did an excellent job of transferring some 180 old VHS tapes to DVD. Fast, easy, painless.

they are available at lots of stores; I got mine at Best Buy.
