Why do celebrities have such bad skin when they don't have makeup on?
I'm doing a research assignment and I need to know why celebrities have such bad skin due to makeup. Please explain what it does :) I've been told that it can clog up pores and stuff but I'd like a little more of an explanation. Can somebody please tell me what makeup actually does to your skin and not about washing it off at night?

I assume it's because they wear stage make-up for long-periods throughout the day on almost a daily basis thus clogging pores and causing dirt and bacteria to build up and cause acne.
Cosmetics can be a trigger for acne. This kind of acne is called Acne Cosmetica.
Make-up ingredients are made up of so many different types of chemical properties. An example is many products contain artificial oils therefore causing an imbalance of the natural sebum produced by our sebaceous glands. It is these oils eg. mineral oils, that block the pores and aggravate acne.
So imagine that a singer is wearing thick stage make-up for a music video. The make-up is layered thick so it shows up vividly on camera. Now along with this make-up causing her skin to produce more oil and blocking pores, she is dancing therefore breaking a sweat, whilst under the glare of bright stage lighting, causing more heat, more sweat, more oil producing glands. Throughout this time, the make-up artists will keep reapplying make-up. And this will happen for a good 10 hours or something along those lines. Now imagine this on a daily basis. Their skin doesn't get a chance to breath.

Makeup isn't bad for you in the sense that if you wear it everyday you will get cancer, in fact most makeups contain spf so they help to prevent against long term skin aging and the possibility of skin cancer. The only bad thing about makeup is that it can clog your pores if left on for too long or is not fully taken off. Bare Minerals and other natural mineral makeups are great because they help your skin with natural ingredients. The celebrities are a different story, they all have good dermatologists, amazing skin, great makeup artists, etc. so even if they don't have perfect skin it is airbrushed so that they do!

It depends on which makeup you've been wearing, I think.
Most makeup has chemicals in it which aren't good for the skin (I don't know exactly what they do to it, but I know it should be washed off before you sleep for 8 hours).
Foundation definitely does clog pores as well, which is important because for skin to be healthy, it needs to be able to breathe. Ideally people should wear as little makeup as possible, because anything with chemicals in it that you put on your face will affect the PH balance of your skin, and will interfere with your skin's ability to breathe, slough off dead cells, etc.
So I suppose makeup makes skin bad because it's an extra layer of gunk that your face isn't used to having on it, and the body probably just thinks of it as dirt. Then it makes more oil to get rid of it, which causes breakouts.
This was quite a roundabout answer, but hopefully it helped =)

Even though they were make-up a lot of the time, when they wash it off they most of the time are using a cleanser so make-up isn't really the problem. The kinds of food you eat impact your skin more than anything else. When there is something wrong with you internally the first sign is skin related. Just cause they have money doesn't change that they eat things loaded with sugars and bad fats and not putting good whole foods in there bodies on a regular basis.

A lot of the makeup they wear is very heavy and full of stuff that will make you break out. It's a vicious cycle: they wear the makeup to hide their skin problems, but the makeup causes more skin problems, etc. I'm not exactly sure what you want as far as technicalities, but yes, it does clog pores. Clogged pores lead to breakouts. You wash off makeup at night because the longer it's on your skin, the more likely it is that it will cause you to break out.

They're always in front of the camera so they're always caking on makeup ( foundation, concealer, etc.) to look flawless when they're not taking the time to prevent skin damage and abuse. It's sad because they don't have the time to give their faces a break from the limelight so thick makeup again they go day in and day out. So as soon as you see them without makeup then all the acne or acne scars and discoloration comes to surface. Let's face it they're human too not gods.

Ya that's pretty much it. Makeup clogs up pores and covers up the discoloration of the face so that it looks smooth and even. In other words: It's fake.

any makeup with an oil base in it will clog the pores in your skin, and doesnt allow them to breath, to get all the makeup off your skin you usually need to exfoliate to get all the makeup in your pores off. umm here's a site with a few things if you just google things about makeup and your skin you'll find heaps.

Make up is kind of like dirt i guess.
It's not the cleanest thing.. and if you keep using make up thats old it gets gross after a while.
But they do make clean make up now that's actually good for your skin.
Not all celebrities has bad skin.. and people that aren't celebrities have bad skin too..
ALOT of people are just born with bad skin.
answer mine please??
