2 yr old cat - bald patches, poss as result of play fighting?

I have a 4 yr old male and a 2yr old female. The male goes out, the female doesn't. The male is neutered, the female isn't.

This morning when I got up she had a bald patch about the circumference of an old 50p piece on the back of her neck/back. It wasn't there last night. She has been scratching it and it is pinky red now, it looks damp - but it's not seeping or bleeding. I suspect that it is the result of them play fighting, which they regularly do - the fight only ending when he gets annoyed and has a go back she then slinks off.

My question is really, what should I do? just leave it to heal naturally, or bathe the area? Should I take her to the vets, or see how she goes over the next couple of days?

Thanks...

Update:

Hi, neither of them appear to have fleas - i am really susceptible to flea bites (I must taste really sweet lol) so i'm a pretty good detector for if they're around. there haven't been any major changes to the household either - so i doubt it's stress related or over grooming. :)

I would clean it up and monitor her for a few days to check it doesn't become infected and that it looks as thought it's healing

Cant you patch the glasses? I had to do this with my son when he was 3 years old. We put a patch on his specs and then plonked him in front of the television with his favorite Thomas DVD on. I know that sounds awful, but it was the only thing that would keep him distracted long enough for him to wear the patch for a sustained length of time. We got a supply of the patches from the hospital and put stickers on top of them to make it a bit more attractive! He is 12 now, and the squint did correct with patching within a few months, and he wore glasses constantly until December last year, when the optitian told him he could downgrade to wearing whilst he watches tv or reads. Good luck!

have both your cats been wormed lately? its just a thought but it could be ringworm, which is highly contagious for both the cats and you so it might be worth getting it looked at.

A lot of pet stores will have treatment for ringworm and it wont hurt to be on the safe side and treat them anyway. Pets at Home (UK) do treatment for this.

If you do worm them regularly and its not ringworm, pop them to the vet and get them checked over, there is no harm in being cautious.

Take her to the vets, theyl give you something on it to prevent infection as its an open wound and if they play fight again it could get caught or infected by something the other cat has in its claws. It could also be fleas? try checking her to see.

Well lots of problems accur when you dont spade your kitty, sometimes it can even be fatal.

Is there just one big patch? she might besensitive to fleas as a result start pulling her fur out.

go to the vet and get her spade and the hair-loss thing is a second issue. h0pe she getz beta =]
