Advice on letting my older cats visit the new kittens?
One of the strays we recently took in has just had a litter of 3 kittens, she had them about a week ago and I want to know when it will be a good time to allow my other two adult cats, one neutered female and one neutered male in to see them. I would like to keep one of the kittens and want to other two to be well socialised before I send them to their new homes.
I will also be getting the mother and the one I keep (Socks) neutered as well to prevent more kittens appearing!
4 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntTime between the birth of kittens.?
The stray we took in recently turned out to be pregnant and she has now gone into labour. She has had one kitten, in which she did very well but after this her contractions have ceased and she is now napping. I am sure there are kittens left in there as her stomach is still very distended however she has stopped having contractions now.
Is there an average time between kittens? The first one was born about 3 hours ago. She has had some food and water and is very attentive.
Just wondered what others have experienced.
Thanks
1 AntwortCatsvor 1 JahrzehntNeed some advice about a pregnant cat.?
We recently took in a little stray cat who had been hanging around the house and it turns out that she is pregnant! She has big pink nipples and is waddling about somewhat so I can't imagine that she has long left.
What I would like to know is what to expect, is there anything I can do to aid her during the labour? I am not a very experienced cat owner and any advice people have will be gratefully received.
Also, do not fear, as soon as she has had the kittens and it is safe to do so, I will be taking her to the vet to be 'fixed' and I am contemplating keeping the kittens as well, I live in a large house with a good sized garden adn there is plenty of room for them all
8 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntMissed Period, abdominal cramps, negative pregnancy test, any ideas?
I am going to the doctor about this but want to know if anyone has had anything similar?
Im 2 weeks late for my period and Im usually very regular. I can almost predict the time Im going to start on the day Im due! I also have abdominal cramps, not stopping me from doing anything but enough to make itself known! I am also experiencing a very bitter taste in my mouth after I eat food, its More of an aftertaste than anything but it is fairly unpleasant. I eat healthily and take regular exercise and I am not under any other major stresses.
Just want to know if anyone else has had anything similar and what their experiences were,
thanks a lot
3 AntwortenWomen's Healthvor 1 JahrzehntWhats your success story?
I want to hear from people who have a success story with their cats. Mine is about Oscar, a local stray I caught stealing food from our other cats food. He was very thin and bedraggled looking and would run away at the first sign of trouble.
Over the next few weeks. i asked about the neighbourhood and discovered that his owners had moved away and left him behind. Couldn't let the poor guy go hungry so we built up his trust and he started to come round a few times a day, even letting me cut out the matted fur and give him a quick stroke and the odd chin scratch.
Unfortunately, Oscar wasn't neutered and as we also have a young female too young for our vets to 'fix' he had to be booked in asap for his operation!
He was micro chipped at the same time and became my cat officially that day. He resumed his breezing in and out until today. when he decided it was time to make the jump onto my lap and curl up. Im thrilled he has done so and makes me feel like he is now Truly my cat... or Im his human...
I am sure others of you have similar stories and I would love to hear some. I intend to write a thing for uni about it so anything you can share would be ace
Thanks
7 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntQuestion about neutering?
We recently got adopted by a stray tom cat who was un-neutered. We decided that if he was going to live with us, then he was going to have to be 'done'. We have 2 other cats and he was a bit aggressive with them so we are hoping that he calms down and becomes more chilled out.
He was taken in today and we got him home about half 5, however the vet was unclear about how long he needed to be kept inside. He loves to be outside and I dont think his previous owners (who moved away and left him behind) let him in the house much. He is litter-trained thankfully but is desperate to get back outside now that he has come round.
Do any of you with experience know how long I should keep him in for? i dont want to let him out while still under the influence of the anesthetic. Last thing I want is for him to be out and about and get hurt because his reactions are not as sharp as they should be.
8 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntDoes anyone else's cat have a thing for loo-rolls?
Recently my cat has decided to start shredding toilet rolls, while this was cute to start with, it is beginning to get rather annoying. Does anyone elses cat do this and if so, any idea how to deter her from doing so.
4 AntwortenCatsvor 1 Jahrzehntwill having the stray tom neutered settle him down?
Oscar is the local stray Tom cat, his owners moved away and left him behind. He is un-neutered and has been coming into our home and 'stealling' the other cats food. Gradually, I have been gaining his trust and he now openly comes in the house, has a snooze, eats and generally chills out.
The issue I have is that he likes to terrorise the other cats of the neighbourhood, including one of my other neutered females. They never really got on and recently they have been having fights. Although he has never gone for our 5 month old kitten.
I have booked Oscar in to be neutered next week and am wondering is this going to help him settle down and not want to terrorise every other cat he comes across. I am hoping so else I am going to have to get him re homed and we have grown used to him being here.
4 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntWhat is the best way to remove oil from a cats fur?
Oscar is the local stray who is spending more and more time at my house. My other cats and I don't mind him coming in, eating some food and having a sleep, he is here most days and is gradually getting more and more affectionate with us.
However, he does not spend night times in the house yet, he chooses to saunter off and do whatever it is he does at night. He has not yet been neutered and is prone to roaming where he will. fear not, this will change next week! This morning he came in for breakfast as usual and he had black oil, like that from a bicycle chain on his back. I assume he had got into someones shed and got it on him that way.
I tried rubbing it off with a tissue and most of it came off. there is still a significant amount on him though and I was wondering what the best way of getting this off is.
Anyone have any advice?
5 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntNeutering a stray cay?
This lovely stray has been hanging about my back door for weeks now. He comes in and I have been feeding him, and boy does he eat! He gets along fine with my other two female cats and although he does not stay at night, he is here nearly all day. Comfortable enough to curl up and sleep here.
My only issue is that he has not been neutered and was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences. I want to get him done and have sent for a voucher from the local cats protection place who pay for half of it.
He is definatly a stray, his previous owners moved away and left him behind.
Just wondering iof anyone else has had similar experiences adn has any advice.
12 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntWhat is the best way to get a cat to swallow tablets?
She has come back from the vet after having stitches in a badly cut paw and she has some anti-biotics to take to help fight the infection.
I know she wont just eat them so do you have any advice on the best way of getting her to swallow them?
Thanks
20 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntDoes anyone know the law regarding stray cats in the UK?
Here's the deal.
I already have 2 cats, 2 girls, one a year old and the other coming up 5 months. Both are friendly animals who get on most of the time.
Recently, we have had a big ginger tom sneaking into the house and eating their food. I dont mind him coming in as I believe he is a stray and if he eats at mine, he has at least eaten that day! He is a little nervous of us all but is growing in confidence and is sleeping in the kitchen/living room doorway right this moment.
The older cat is a lot more wary that the little one and they have had a few scuffles in the past. The little one runs over and just sniffs him with no issue what so ever.
My problem is that he is un-neutered and I want to know if I take him to the vet and get him done will there be any problems. I do not know for definate if he is a stray and I certainly dont want angry owners coming round if I go ahead and get it done. He does spray - not in the hosue as yet thankfully - and I am aware that this can be helped by neutering.
Just looking for some advice if anyone has had experiencein the past.
11 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntWhy has my kitten started to try and suckle again?
She is 3 months old and I have had her since she was 8 weeks. When i first got her she idnt try to suckle on anything at all whereas now she seems to do it a lot more, usually to either any jumper or top your wearing or her fleecy blanket. Is it signs of an underlying sickness, I know cats are excellent at hiding illnesses or is it that she has become more comfortable around us? I am trying to discourage her from doing this as I dont want her to ingest wool or anything that will upset her stomach or cause blockages.
She is due to go to the vets this coming tuesday for her booster jabs so I am going to get her looked over anyway. Just want to know what people think.
2 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntDoes anyone know of any Elizabethan Epyllion?
I am looking for less known titles of Elizabethan Epyllion or Epic Poetry, I already know of Shakespeare's Venus and Adonis and The Rape of Lucrece, Spensers The Faerie Queene, Malrowe's Hero and Leander and of COurse Milton's Paradise Lost.
I am just looking for some different titles.
Thanks
1 AntwortHistoryvor 1 JahrzehntAny suggestions on cats that are not getting along?
I have a 1 year old neutered female cat and a 9 week old female kitten. I have had the older one about 2 months before introducing her to the new kitten When I first introduced them there was a bit of hissing at the new kitten but after a few days they settled down and seemed to be getting along OK.
I have had them both together for 3 weeks now and my older cat has started getting very boistous with the kitten, They appear to be playing and chasing each other harmlessly enough but from time to time the older will jump on the kitten and bite and claw her stomach. It makes the kitten scream and she hides for ages afterwards so its clearly not friendly behaviour, although no blood or scratches can be seen on her tummy.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be the cause of this? Is it a dominance thing? Am I right to intervene in this rough 'play'?
A little reassurance I am doing the right thing would be nice and any tips to try and help the situation would be appreciated.
Thanks
7 AntwortenCatsvor 1 Jahrzehntwhat is the silliest thing your cat has brought home?
Most cats normally bring home things they have caught as presents for you, adorable, if a little sad for the birds/mice/creatures.
However, our cat Poppy does not bring home live things for me, she brings me gross plastic bags instead, or bits of polythene she finds, usually covered in mud!
What is the craziest thing your cat has ever brought home?
Also, my kitten twitches in her sleep, sometmes very violently, do cats dream like we do? she isnt sick, its just a bit alarming when she does it on your lap !!
19 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntAre my cats playing or fighting?
I have a year old rescue cat, whom I have had for 3 months. When I rescued her she was split from her sister and we lived without other cats. Although she settled reasonably well, she seemed restless so I decided to get another cat to keep her company.
The new cat is only 7 weeks old and seems to be settling in fine, she explores, is playful and like to sleep on my shoulder! However my other cat's reaction is not so great. There was a bit of hissing at first and she likes to knock the kitten about a bit. This is what i am unsure about. She has become a lot quieter as she was very vocal before.
She no longer hisses or makes herself big, nor does she act aggressive, but she does like to swipe the kitten. Is this playing or not. I dont want the kitten getting hurt but neither do I want to shout at Poppy if its only play. I want them to be friends after all.
Anyone with experience who can give me some reassurance?
thanks
11 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntAnyone have tips on correct care for persian cats?
I am getting a persian cat in the next couple of days and know the basics of caring for her, eg daily grooms to keep her fur clean and in good condition but was wondering if there are any Persian owner/experts out there who have any tips or pointers about caring for them?
6 AntwortenCatsvor 1 JahrzehntWhat would be the best companion for my cat?
I have a 12 month old spayed female cat whom I rescued from a local rehoming charity. She is a very loving animal but despite being spoilt rotton, she seems to be pining. When I adoopted her, I split her up from her sister, whom she has always been with. I was unsure whether I wanted two cats as she is the first I have ever owned. Now, however I feel I should get another cat as I love having her and I think we would both benefit from another cat being around.
I would like to ask what would be the best companion for her. I would like one younger than her but am unsure of what sex would be best? any advice?
