What the heck is in my fish tank?

Okay, I'm going to explain this as best I can without having a picture up. I have a 55 gallon fish tank, and we've found these things, that look like egg sacs or something. If you can imagine, taking one of those baby corns they use in asian food, cutting it lengthwise , and sticking half of it on the side of the tank. The weird thing is, the level on the water has been down about 4-5 inches from the top of the tank (I have a couple of jumpers), and we're finding these things all the way at the top of the tank; out of the water. I've found 3 now within the past week and a half.

For the record, I have 5 neon tetras, 2 orange glow fish, 2 marbled mollies, 2 angel fish, 2 snails and 3 big (4-5" long) gold fish. I also have two real lilly pads growing in the tank.

Anyone got any ideas what these things are? They're hard-ish (I'm afraid to really squish them). Should we just leave them????

    Sounds like Apple Snail eggs:

Leave them, and they will hatch, and you'll soon be overrun with many baby apple snails (which will probably in turn be eaten by the Goldfish). But you can just take them off and throw them away. Once the snails start laying they'll continue.

They're most likely the snails. We had 9 snails in the beginning and now we have close to 500 in about 5 months from all the snails.

it really isn't any longer that they are short-tempered, that's in basic terms how they function. even if the bettas offered in puppy shops are often too old to reproduce effectively, and that's a time ingesting, intense priced procedure. If performed incorrectly, you may want to finally end up with 2 lifeless bettas. it really isn't any longer extremely how betta breeding works: A male contained in the wild might want to construct his nest and performance it waiting. If a lady passes by using and is gravid, (complete of eggs) the male will charm to her to go back less than his nest, and he will "include" her. This act causes the female to expel the eggs. The then options the eggs up and places them in his nest. they could repeat this procedure many situations, often ending with one hundred-500 eggs. the female will swim away at the same time as they're complete, and the male has a tendency to the nest. See the priority? contained in the wild, the female is going willingly, and leaves at the same time as it really is over. In an aquarium, there's no destroy out. If the female isn't waiting, the male may harass her, or if she would not go away, he will preserve his nest and attack her.

    Snail eggs :)

What kind of snails do you have? Some do lay their eggs above the water line. Research the type you have and see if that's the case with them.

There are eggs? Either that or some type of strange fungus is growing.

I think the massive overpopulation is another issue. Especially the mixing of tropical and coldwater fish. You should separate the coldwater and the other fish into about 3 tanks or 1 30 gal. tank (for goldfish) and 1 60 gal. tank. Right now it's pretty crowded up.

Snail eggs. Put a little bit of salt in the water to make sure you don't get over run with snails.
