The stalk of the butternut squash.?
What can I cook with the stalk of the butternut squash. All recipes say to cut off the stalk. The stalk is never part of the ingredient, any ideas.

You realize that by "stalk" they mean the woody fibrous thing on the end of the squash, and not the "neck" of the squash? There's the bulbous end, which has all of the seeds inside, this is connected to the narrower, fleshy neck, which has no seeds but is all squash "meat", and then the stalk, which was where the squash was connected to the vine. Only the stalk is non-edible.

The stalk is too fibrous and has bitter tastes to it - there is no culinary use for it.
Use it for compost.

Never had much apetite for umbilical cords myself.
It doesn't taste nice and you won't be able to soften it enough.
