Two bright stars in the evening sky now (Easterly and low down) Anybody know what they are?

It's Jupiter and Venus, Jupiter being the uppermost object. They will be drawing closer together on successive nights until Monday, when they will be at their closest. If you are in Europe, the Moon will pass in front of Venus on the same evening.

a number of bright stars are rising in the late evening at this time of year, including sirius, procyon, rigel, betelgeuse and capella.

if you really meant in the west it's venus and jupiter, as others have already answered.

two bright stars in the eveing sky are WESTERLY and low down.... showing best right after sunset and they are Venus and Jupiter....
