i recently bought a hamster and it did cost more than i thought it would.

Cage: $25-$30

Bedding: (i reccomend carefresh) $6.50 for 10 litres

Toys: about $10

Hidey House: About $10

Food dish: $3 if cage didnt come with one

Water bottle: $5 if cage didnt come with one

Wood Chews: $4

Vitamins: around $6

Wheel: $10 for a good one

Hamster: about $15 depending on where you get them

Hamster Food: you can get 5lbs of nutriphase for $6

Hamster Cost

I would use Carefresh bedding. A $10 bag should suffice for a couple of weeks but probably a month. A bag of hamster food is roughly $7. That would probably last a couple of weeks to a month depending on how much the hamster eats and how much waste there is. Cages can range from $20 or $30 to $100. Toys for the hamster would be no more than $10. A house for the little furball would be no more than $8. There are alot of extras you can buy for you lil critter but thats up to you.

But the cost can very if you where to get a teddy bear hamster i would suggest getting a bigger cage but if you where to get a dwarf hamster you might want a smaller one. Also the cage i chose came with a water bottle but if you got a different cage it might not come with one. The average price for a hamster can range from 8-15$ depending on what kind you get and what store you get it from. The price of every thing could be different but this is an estimate that should help. The things i have chosen would be best for a small or a dwarf hamster.

The hamster itself will cost around £7-£14. You will need hamster food which is about £1.50, a water bottle which is usually included in the cage, if not then be sure to get a small hamster sized one so that it isnt too big. A food bowl will also be included in the cage but if not then you can buy one. You will need a cage which is large enough for your hamster and you could get a normal square one but if you get one with tubes and more compartments, it will be more interesting for you and the hamster. An aquarium could be bought because most people say that they are the best as they do not tip over/are easier to clean but personally with experience i have found that cages with bars are better as hamsters just love to climb up and along them! Preferably the largest you can afford. The sawdust should say that it is for hamsters on it and be sure to not get pine shavings as this irratates the eyes, also you can buy a bedroom for your hamster (a small house where it can sleep) but this isnt essential, if you dont get one then they just make a bed in the shavings in their cage. Also wool type bedding should be bought to keep them warm and they can make there beds with it. Treats and fruit sticks can be bought to keep them alert and interested but as to make it less expensive, you could buy these another

-food around 2 dollars per pound, one puond of food lasts for about 5 days. hamsters eat alot unlike rabbits nad guinea pigs.

-Sawdust 7-40 dollars per month depending on how big of a bag you get

-hamster ball (opional) 4-8 dollars

-water bottle food dish etc. 3-9 dollars

-Extras (treats chew toyz house for them to sleep in ect.) 6-20 dollars depending on how much stuff you buy for him/her.

- hamster (i wopuld recomend a teddy bear hamster) teddy bear hamster cost between 6-9 dollars. all my teddy bear hamsters costed 8 dollars.
