  • I started my new job and HATE it?

I started a new job Friday. Saturday was my first full day. I had yesterday off. I HATE it. it's in a deli in a store. I feel like I know nothing, I have only worked at vet clinics before. it isn't the people, everyone seems nice and helpful. but I mess stuff up left and right, and it isn't very organized there which doesn't help. I have been looking for a job for 5 months with no luck until this. I need money for college so I am pretty much stuck. I don't want to stay, but I have no choice. I also don't want to give up after 2 days, but I HATE it. all the food makes me feel sick, the smell is repulsive and I have no knowledge what-so-ever in what I am selling people and I constantly have to ask questions. I just want so advice on how to cope. how many weeks should I give it before I can truely know it is not for me? I hate knowing nothing, I know that is a big part on why I hate it. but I also just can't deal with the food. I worked a 9 hour shift Saturday and ate my breakfast and nothing the rest of the day and had to force myself to eat the next day because I was still disgusted. I wish I had never been offered this job, or had known I would hate it so. any words of advice? I know.. suck it up. but I was hoping for advice from others that have been in this position..

  • Feline with hard bowel movements, options besides laxatone?

My little old lady is a rescue. She's 8 years old, and has had very hard stool as long as I have had her. My vet told me to give her laxatone a few times a week to help, but she hates it. She does get canned food and dry food. The vet that recommended the laxatone told me that cats should NEVER have wet food and all wet food was horrible for her. that doesn't add up with everything I have read online, and she LIKES wet food.

so I was hoping there was something I could give her to help loosen her stool up a bit to make her more comfortable.. like a human food that would be okay or something natural?

  • Puppy help !?

I have a 5 month old puppy, and I am having the hardest time potty training him. I think he knows he is supposed to go outside, but if he has to go, he'll just go inside anyways. he'll go somewhere and hide, and when I tell him no and take him outside, he just stares at me like 'what?'

also, he doesnt really obey me. he does do his basic commands, but he isn't worried about getting in trouble ever. if I tell him no for something, or make the 'ah-ah' noise, he just stares at me or keeps doing it.

it's my first puppy, and I'm sure most of the mistakes are my fault, but I want to correct it as soon as possible.

also, he is a chihuahua if that adds to anything.

  • Morning after pill help?

I had unprotected sex Sunday night. I am usually on birth control, where I skip the sugar pills due to a medical condition.

well I got my prescription late, and so I had a period, and I was off it on Thursday.

After we had sex, I had this horrible gut feeling. something just felt wrong. I've had sex before when I was paranoid about my birth control, because I missed a day, or I was off it for a month. but I have never had this bad of a gut feeling.

I am running out of time to get the pill. I feel in my heart it's wrong to do that, I know I will always wonder what if there had been a baby. I cant think of it as anything but a baby, I am very against abortion. not to other women, just for myself, that isnt an option. and the morning after pill feels like abortion to me.

but I know in my head that it's the best thing to do.

I am 19, starting college in the fall. I cant have a baby yet. I have been with my boyfriend 3 years, and I have a very supportive family, but still.

I have no one to turn to for advice. I dont want to speak with my mom about this yet.

has anyone been in my situation or have some words of advice for me?

  • How big do you think my dog will be?

I have a 10 week old chihuahua male. He'll be 11 weeks next Tuesday (the 24th).

When I got him, I saw the mother and father of him. The mother was maybe 4-ish pounds, but the father to me looked about 7. My puppy looks JUST like the father, so I was going off of what he looked like more. Well a little while ago, my boyfriend told me that I was judging the father wrong, and that he was much smaller than I thought. I just hadnt seen how the man was holding him.

My puppy was 1.6 pounds on the 26th of February.

He was 2.1 on the 13th of March, when he was 9 weeks old.

    And yesterday, we has 2.4

I dont want a tiny Chihuahua, I was hoping for 6 pounds at the VERY least. I more so wanted 7-9.

How big do you think he will be? My vet told me probably 6-9 pounds.. but she also was just telling me what I wanted to hear I think. Because first she said 6 pounds, and I said I wanted a bigger one, and then she said 'well good because I really thought 9 pounds."

I suppose none of it really matters, he is what he is. =]

    I just want an idea.

Here is a picture of him at 10 weeks.

  • What age can you start training a dog basic commands?

I have a 9 week old chihuahua puppy. I decided today was the day to strat basic commands. I know this takes time, LOTS of time, but he doesnt understand a thing.

I am using the Victoria Stillwell book for how to train him, and we were starting with 'sit".

He wont ever just sit. he just chews and chews my finger for the treat, and it just starts to hurt with those sharp baby teeth!

Is there another method for training the sit command someone reccomends, or am I jumping the gun on training basic commands?

  • Vaccine question on 7 week old puppy?

I just got a 7 week old puppy. He turned 7 weeks on Tuesday, and I took him home Sunday.

He hadn't had any vaccines, so I gave him his first one on Monday.

I know he needs more vaccines, many more in fact.

But I am curious about this:

I live at home, he goes to the bathroom outside already very well.

My boyfriend lives in a decent apartment. But just because it looks nice, doesn't mean the people are nice or smart.

He wont go on piddle pads, well he goes poop but not urinates.

So if I let him out at my boyfriends apartment, is he protected much at all? I am so worried about parvo, but he goes outside so much better, and it's so much easier.

So does the first vaccine help against that at all? I know he needs more every 3-4 weeks 3 more times.

I just dont want him to get parvo, but he likes to go potty outside more.

  • I need help from dog lovers =[?

I am feel really guilty about getting a new dog. I mean REALLY guilty.

My boyfriend and I have a dog together. it's really his dog, but we are together everyday, and the dog goes everywhere, and so it's basically our dog. He's a chihuahua mix, and the sweetest guy. We rescued him from a woman's house who didnt care about him, and had 10 kids running around and scaring him constantly. I've worked on him a lot and he is more socialized now, but still had typical chihuahua traits.

The other part of the back story. I have worked at a vet since I was 15 now. My first summer there, a woman brought in Chinese Cresteds and I fell in love. I have wanted one ever since.

Well I just got one two days ago. He just turned a year old, he was supposed to be a show dog but it didnt work. he is a "hairy" hairless. He is super sweet, but he doesn't play. He only plays with my cat, or my boyfriend's dog. I know I can get him to play, but I am not sure how? if I try to play with him, he gets scared. And he doesnt understand what chew bones, balls, rope toys, sqeaky toys.. nothing are. he just gives me a funny face. so in the morning or when I get home from work, he is all hyper and happy, and I dont know what to do! All I can do it pet him. It's wierd. He also doesn't make any noise at all.

So anyways, I brought him home two days ago. The second my boyfriend got here with his dog, I wanted to cry. I feel like I am replacing my boyfriend's dog. I feel horrible. I have been crying all these days. I have a week where I can take him back and have my money back. But the thought of taking him back makes me want to cry too. I realize it's only been a few days, but the guilt isnt getting any better. I just feel so torn. My boyfriend's dog doesnt seem that mad so far, but I love how needy he is of me.

I am starting to think maybe I got a mistake getting my own dog at all. I am also starting to think, as much as I love Chinese Cresteds, maybe I should have just found a Chihuahua, because I love all the expressions, the vocals, the needy part of the behavior. =/

I just don't know what to do. I dont want to keep a dog that I will feel I always treat second best when my other dog is around.

This happened before when my parents divorced, we had a dog at my mom's, and the dog from my childhood lived with my dad. Whenever that dog came to stay with us for a weekend if my dad had to go somewhere, I almost ignored my other dog.

I just don't know what to do!

  • What to say when I call the breeder?

I am calling a breeder in town today to ask about buying one of her puppies. she is a client at my work (I work at a vet) and so she knows how much I love the breed. she also knows I have been wanting one from another lady. I have decided to buy from the local breeder instead.

so when I call her, what do I say?

how do I ask about getting a dog?

I just feel very wierd about just calling. lol. this is my first dog I have ever gotten on my own, so I am nervous about how to handle it.

what should I say if she asks about why I am not getting one from the other woman. should I be honest, and say she offended me, or should I lie about it?

I mostly just want to know how to get the ball rolling. I have no idea what to say after I tell her I am interested in a dog. =/

  • hamster not eating much/sleeping often?

my hamster, who I have had since March is sleeping a lot more often than he usually does, and not eating much.

when I got him, he was young, but not a baby. maybe a month or 2 old.

he usually eats all his food every other day it's empty. he hasn'tt mptied it in a few days now. he sleeps a lot during the night, and all day. I've been checking often. he is usually awake in the morning, and never is.

when I cleaned out his cage yesterday, he didn't move his stuff around like he normally does, went right back into his house and went to bed without pulling bedding into it or anything.

he hasn't touched the treats he loves that I placed on the bottom if his cage after I cleaned it yesterday.

he doesn't have wet tail, he seems too young to be dying.

    any ideas?

  • irresponsible kid given hamster!?

I walk into ym house last night, where I live with ym mom and step dad, and I hear a funny noise. I flip on a light and a hamster is sitting there running on it's wheel. I was pissed off, because I had to work really hard to just have my hamster that was living at my boyfriends house move in here.

well anyways, the hamster is a dalmation color teddy bear I believe. or else just grey and white teddy bear.

it is in way too small of a cage for when it gets full size, it had practically no bedding in there, I didnt see food ANYWHERE and it has nothing to do besides chew on a wood stick and run on a wheel.

my step brother is 10 I think, and he gets all excited about something, and looses interest a few weeks later, so this hamster will have a horrible home.

this morning when the kids left for school, I went in his room and gave it the correct amount of bedding, found it's horrible source of food which were huge pellets, so I threw in some of my hamsters real food, which it jumped on instantly.

but also, whenever I open the lid, it SCREAMS at me, loudly and horrible. I first thought I shut it in something. it's very wierd. I am so thankful none of my three hamsters have ever done that.

he lives at his dad's house (my house) for 6 days, then goes to his mom's for 8 days. he is going to bring the hamster back and forth.

but when he is here, the hamster also gets moved up and down the stairs at night so he can sleep.

so this poor hamster is practically never in the same place, which I know is very hard on them. I dont see it getting very tame this way.

    so HELP!

what can I say to him to help him understand hamster care better?

I dont want to seem rude, even though it pisses me off.

  • help with endometriosis and retroverted uterus?

To start, my doctor can only assume I have endometriosis right now, but he thinks it's pretty likely.

I've had the worst cramps since my very first period. I have always bleed very heavy, for 8-9 days. I always thought I was just unlucky. then at 17, other things starting happening, making it so I had to start seeing my gyno. Sex was unbearable, I couldnt even keep a tampon in, it was like my body was rejecting it, and the pain was so bad I'd have to take it right back out. I was having cramps, well I dont think the pain I feel can be called cramps. It's like a stabbing sensation, even when I wasnt on my period.

after seeing quite a few gynos, I found one I liked. I was told I also had a retroverted uterus, and was very sore in a certain spot, making him think endo was even more likely. he let me stay on my current birth control, but had me never take the sugar pills.

well I have been not taking the sugar pills for over 6 months now, and I am bleeding about 24/7. I havent not bleed one day in 6 months. Usually it was just nasty colored stuff, but the last couple days I've been bleeding bright red, and very thin blood.

I also have been having headaches, and back pain is horrible, this has all been going on for the last year.

I also have stomach problems. It's unpredictable, I've had scopes, tons of medicines. nothing helps.

can this be linked to endo? I've had stomach problems since I was 11.

I have been reading around about endo on here, because I feel like my doctors dont really tell me much.

I cant have the surgery done to have them look in there, because they can only do it at one hospital and my mom's insurance isnt enough. I'm 18, and dont have a job with insurance to help out.

can I really become infertile from the endometriosis?

my mom cant have kids from being a foolish kid in her teens, and it has been my one thing I want out of life, to have a child of my own.

is it more likely I'll be infertile or have a very hard time getting pregnant with the retroverted uterus AND endo?

I dont want a baby anytime soon, trust me. after college. but I do want to be able to have them.

  • buying a puppy from a breeder?

I have been wating a chinese crested since I was 15. I am now 18, and can FINALLY have one. I have read book after book on the breed, and I worked at a vet for three years where we had quite afew breeders come in.

my favorite of the breeders lives in california, and comes into washington in the summers. when I was working at the vet, she brought them in for debarks in the summer. I asked her in 2007 if I could buy a puppy from her the next summer, and we discussed it and she told me the price and that she'd talk with me more about it the next summer.

I quit working there in april, so I found her website online, emailed her and told her who i was, and that I was now needing a puppy in the spring of 09, which I figured wouldnt be a problem since there is a waiting list anyways, and she doesnt breed very often.

she hasnt written me back, and I've tried a few times.

so I went to her links of her site, and there was a woman with BEAUTIFUL cresteds. I just emailed her, even though it said to call on the website about puppies.

since I worked in a vet, I kind of know what to expect, that the puppy will have to be flown up here, I wont really get to pick my own out, and need to pay for health certificates and such.

I dont really know what to ask the breeder when she replies, since I;m sure then I'll have to call her.

I don't know how it works, buying a puppy from a big breeder, especially one far away.

will she have to fax the contract if she has one for me to sign?

do you need to put down half the money for the puppy while on the waiting list?

    ect, ect.

I just kind of need to know the process.

and because I know I will get this, yes I know cresteds have a quite a few health problems, even well bred ones. I am willing to take care of it's skin in the winter and summer, as well as brush it's teeth, and pay for yearly dentals since it's genetic they have horrible teeth.
