Question about PS3 Purchase?

So I'm finally going to break down and buy a PS3. But where are the differences between the 40gb version and the 80gb version besides the Hard Drive capacity?

I've heard the 40gb doesn't have the built in WiFi, is that true? And what are some other important differences?

Update:

What**** are the differences?

Update 2:

One more thing....I know it plays bluray movies, is there a difference in quality between the PS3 and a standalone bluray player? And will it play regular dvd's and upscale them?

The 40gb does have wifi built in.

The 80gb version has 4 x USB ports, Memory Stick/SD/CompactFlash Slots and hardware support for the PS2 graphics chip. This means that it can run most PS2 games (compatibility estimates vary but you can check if a game runs on Sony's web site).

The 40gb version has 2x USB ports, no media slots and does not have the PS2 graphics chip so it will not run any PS2 games.

Quality wise the PS3 blu-ray player is equivalent to standalone players, and if you have the BD controller you have pretty much the same functionality. The PS3 does upscale DVD's as do, as far as I can tell, all the standalone blu-ray players.

The reason the PS3 is priced the same as the cheapest blu-ray players is that Sony subsidizes the PS3 because they plan on making money on the licence fees for games.

The ps3 80gb also has 4 input jacks so you can play guitar hero or rock band with all the attachments if you get the 40gb you have to buy the adaptor which is like 30 or 40 dollars so you might as well spend the money to get the 80gb however ps3 just annonced that they are going to stop selling the 40 60 and 80 and are going to 116gb so if you can wait just a little longer you be getting the better deal. also the ps3 40gb does not play ps2 or ps1 games but the 80 does. some say the 60gb do too but I hear it wont play all the games just a selet few.

The things that the 80gb has that the 40gb doesn't are the multimedia card slots, 2 extra usb ports, and around 80% backwards compatibility with ps1 and ps2 titles, that's it, the 40gb has less vents because it uses less electricity, every ps3 except the 20gb version has wi fi. The ps3 is a great blu ray player, there is no difference compared to other blu ray players, it's actually better than the first blu ray player to come out.

There seems some confusion among the above answerer's. the unique 80gb PS3 (I own one) grow to have the ability to play PS2 video games, yet grow to be re released a short even as back and is not any longer in a position to play them and the hot slender PS3 is likewise no longer in a position to play PS2 video games. There are not any more any PS3 structures at the moment in production which could play PS2 video games. #a million i'm no longer particular what the going fee for a PS2 and video games is immediately. #2 no longer the more recent ones and the former ones can only be discovered used. #3 I basically offered my 0.33 PS3 (the slender version) the first 2 died on me and that i donated them to a lot less fortunate associates (one in each and every of those grow to have the ability to be repaired). #4 no longer until eventually you'll locate someone who help you to apply their worker low cost.

OK you are going to get a lot of guy's telling you the same but here i go......

the difference between the 80GB and 60GB...it's the memory, they both play ps2 games ,also blu-ray discs , actually the 80GB had memory card slots for ...stick...stick duo and more...........both of those are really hart to find ,Sony took them out the market.... and you might find them on line but.....really expensive tough.

now the 40GB DOES have a built in wifi i do own one and i use it to play on line it does not play ps2 games and it doesn't come with the memory stick ports....so there is not really a lot to choose from...so go for the 40...it's cheap($399)...and you'll find it almost anywhere...good luck

biggest diffrence other then the hard drive is that 40 gb model is not backwards compatible with ps1 and 2 games.
