no i believe it was used on the battle field they carryed a little box like with the medication and the needle  i think  cocain was first on the battle field because it helped them fight longer and stay awak then they relized it wasnt good for you then they treated the ppl who were sick from cocain withdraws for morphine i Saw this whole show about it

But it was not until the development of the hypodermic needle in 1853 that its use spread.[9] It was used for pain relief, and as a "cure" for opium and alcohol addiction.
