Help! I think I have a dead spot on my hard drive.?

You need a new hard drive in short order. Until you can get one, reinstall your word processor, but don't uninstall it first. You want to do a custom install and install it to a different folder. That way the bad sectors will still have the old verision of your word processor and nothing else will be written on the bad sectors until you can get it replace.

You start backing up your data. If you are luck you can have both hard drives on your computer and copy the old file to the new one, but if your old drive dies before you the new one you might not be able to get the data off.

I suggest your email yourself any vital data and leave it on the server so it's there waiting for you get the new drive. You might also want to look into flipdrive.com I use them when I need to get the data off my drive.

One last thing, there have been some viruses that cause your hard drive to make those noises so, back up your data and then run a virus scan just be sure.

If you have a grinding sound you are living on borrowed time. SAVE ALL your data files immediately and replace the hard drive.

While reinstalling the word processor program may help you will soon find the system dead and a new pc in order.

Uninstalling and reinstalling should help as this is where you are having the problem. Also get rid of any other programs that you don't need. You could need more memory as well. Back up your files because the grinding is NOT good :)

I doubt that will help, as when there is a corruption in the drive, it only tends to worsen with time. I would highly recommend replacing it ASAP! Hi. The others are right. Get a new (and probably bigger and better) hard drive and transfer all your data.

I agree with GTB, better buy a new HD ASAP!!!!!
