Is there really as much racism in America as I have to see here on Y! Answers?

Please have a look at this question and the answers to it:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ai0OD...

It was a very good question and there were several very racist answers. This is just one example, I've seen it in other questions and the answers to them as well. Is it just because of the anonymity of the Internet that people write this way and is this Y! Answers a club of the racists, or is this normal in America?

I'm not American and don't live in the US.

Update:

Yes, Omni D and nowyouknow, I understand that on a website like this it is probably worse than in real life. But how much of it is there in real life?

Update 2:

Thank you for your answers. I put this to vote because most of you wrote something similar and I can't decide which of your answers is th best.

Keep in mind that anonymity, as offered by Y!A, breeds bravery and stupidity. So you're going to get the very best and the very worst extremes of humanity here.

In short, no, real-life America isn't quite as bad as this board would have you believe.

yes, there is a racism in US, as probably in all the countries in the world, just it is different one. And it's not only white are racists but blacks are too. As i noticed it's not so open but it exists anyway. And yes, here because of anonymity people speak their mind.

Race in the USA is a very sticky subject and still a hot point with a lot of people.

Fear & ignorance is at the root of it and judging from some of the questions on YA it's not going away anytime soon.

It's such a waste of time and energy.

I believe Podman thoroughly. you're in basic terms searching at one crew and making severe assumptions about yet another (white). anybody is prejudiced adversarial to someone for one reason or yet another (dermis coloration, hair coloration, faith, etc..). Btw what about what yet another poster has reported above, shows racism between minorities also exists. And even as ppl make generalizations about a particular race or faith devoid of any information (or selective information) I also brush aside them, because no one is defined by technique of the coloration of their dermis.

It is probably due to the anonymity of the internet that all the racist tendencies come out.

Racists people lack an understandign of the world, thus they woudl be the type of people who do and bleieve what the media and internet tells them ot believe. I think Yahoo is kidn of a magnet for biggotry.

Yes it is b/c of the anonymity of the internet. Some dumb uneducated racist kid would never run his mouth like that in front of a black person...in person...at least without expecting some kind of retaliation...

It is ironic that racism exists in America, which is really made up of so many different races, but the fact is that racism will always be around.

No. It's a small niche and in the real world these people usually don't express their views openly. People can think whatever they want, just don't disrespect me or my family.

I do not think it is that bad, but it is the fact that you are not face to face with that person to say such mean words.
