Make sure the container is air tight. Add a piece of bread to the container. Seriously. When my daughter was in Iraq I bought those ziplock plastic bowls, put a papertowel on the bottom, added the cookies, another paper towel on top and piece of bread on top of that.

Please tell the person you are sending them to THANK YOU from me.

    Plain old white bread :)

Store them in an airtight container like a Ziploc bag or Tupperware container. Put a slice of bread in the container with them, and keep the crispy cookies separate from the soft ones. What makes soft cookies go hard, and vice versa, is moisture. The bread wil absorb the moisture, thus preventing it from affecting the cookies. The bread wil be stale but the cookies will retain their texture.

Whatever sandwich bread you have around the house should work - just put a slice in the bag/container will the soft cookies. This works for your brown sugar, too - though a saltine cracker has been known to do the job as well.

I've heard of putting a slice of bread in with them to absorb excess moisture.

Put them in ziplock baggies.. put a straw in the bag and zip it cosed around the straw.. then suck out the excess air... quickly pull the stray out and zip the spot.. this should remove most of the air. ( I learned that in girl scouts)

any kind of sliced sandwhich bread will work

the vaccum sealer would definitely do the trick and then you can pack both kinds in the same box.
