ok, you have a 5 gallon bucket and a 2 gallon bucket, you need exactly 1 gallon of water?

explain how you would get exactly 1 gallon of water.  And you can't say, but eyeball it.

You use the 2 gallon bucket to fill the 5 gallon...you will be left with 1 gallon of water.

EDIT::: this riddle would be a little tougher if you had a 3 gallon bucket instead of a 2 gallon...and wanted to end up with exactly 4 gallons of water.....

pour 2 gallons from it into the other, leaving you with 3 gallons

dump that out

repeat and you are left with 1 gallon in the 5 gallon bucket

fill the 5 gallon bucket dump it into the 2 gallon, dump out the 2 gallon, fill the 2 gallon again.  you have 1 gallon remaining in the 5 gallon bucket

Seems like people are figuring this out pretty quick.  I though to fill the 5 gal bucket and then with that water fill the 2 gal. bucket twice leaving 1 gal in the 5 gal bucket.  Oh this sounds familiar the movie die hard.  Find something original.
