There's been a lot of "proud American " talk about his deployment. But yesterday, my roommate told me a story just broke that a judge in juvenile court sentenced the delinquent to his choice of either jail or military service.

Yeah, I know, "leave the kids out of the election". Well, for election purposes only, I need to know how Palin governed her own home, and to what degree she's made misleading statements.

Has anyone heard a confirmation or denial of this story?

Do judges really "sentence" juveniles to military service in our volunteer military?

She likes to make babies, joined the PTA, one thing leads to another, and now she's McCain's running mate. Do we need some Hockey Mom to be a (feeble) heartbeat away from Commander in Chief?

(No disrespect to Hockey Moms... but would you want to balance half-hour feedings with Oval Office responsibilities?)

I keep hearing a song with a female vocalist, kind of retro a la Winehouse. The chorus says " you got me begging you for mercy... why don't you release me... blah blah blah - you got me under your spell"

I still love this '80's song . I know all the lyrics that the lead (Orzabal) sings, but what does the background (Smith) sing during the second verse... "nothing ever changes when your...." It's like there's an entire different verse hidden in there.

There's still buzz about this presidential candidate's middle name, Hussein, an Arabic name for boys, which means "good looking".

There's not much buzz about another presidential candidate's name, McCain, which means son of Cain, who was the world's first murderer, whose descendants have a less than positive reputation.

If we're using names to judge, why the inconsistency?

Most Christians will agree that the Old Testament is a history which leads to the Messiah, which is why Christians can eat shellfish and wear cotton/poly shirts and disobey other laws of Leviticus... Jesus came to make a new covenant between man and God. He spread is message of Love, which is now world-wide.

So why, whenever there is a question about homosexuality, do many Christian answerers post OT verses to condemn and oppress? Jesus never even spoke of the issue.

In our past, the Bible was used similarly to keep women from having equal rights, and to keep slavery as an American institution . I bet we all agree that letting blacks and women become productive members of society has benefitted society as a whole.

Why must we go through the same motions to keep homosexuals down? Why the hatred from those who claim to follow a message of love? I wonder who will be the target in the next century once homosexual respect and equal rights are commonplace and taken for granted

My sister and i threw a large party for our mother's birthday. We went all out as far as decorating and cooking. Later in the evening, after most of the guests left, and we were winding down and cleaning up, my dear aunt began - out of nowhere - her testimonial about how she came to be a born again Christian a decade ago. It was an "Amazing Grace"-type story about how Jesus put her broken family back together and saved her from suicide.This stopped the party dead in its tracks for a good hour, then I told my sister I was going to put a stop to it, to regain the light-hearted nature of the festivities. My sister - with her Buddhist sensibility - asked me to remain quiet and let it run it's course. Soon after, the rest of the party left in uncomfortable silence, and I left, too, while my aunt remained, trying to save my sister.

My question : is this really appropriate? I know my aunt feels she has a job to do, but must it be so intrusive? Should I have stepped in to save the party?

I am, of course, skeptical of the commercial, but intrigued enough to hear from anyone who has actually used them.

I always have vivid dreams, and I love being in my dreamworld. But sometimes I'm troubled when I awake because I don't know what to do with creative information.

Last night, in a dream, I "designed" a piece of furniture. It was a really cool stacking side table that could "unstack" into three tables. I haven't seen this piece of furnture before. Once before I dreamed about a chandelier design - I still remember it clearly. Sometimes I dream songs I haven't heard, I'm aware that they are original in the dream, and wake up with the tune in my head. The strange thing is: I don't know how to work wood or metal, and I certainly don't know how to write or read music - can't play an instrument. So the music dreams get lost - I can't write them down. And the design dreams; well, I can sketch things but then what? Am I supposed to have them built?
